THIRD ANNUAL
ASCENSION BAY PERMIT TOURNAMENT
Punta Allen - April 21-24, 2017
An open "village's tournament " organized for for the benefit of the
children and schools of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere and for the
conservation and protection of the Biosphere's environment.
THE NAME OF THE WINNERS WILL BE
INCLUDED IN THE WALL OF FAME.
TACKLES & RULES
Rods/lines: any length of rod and any kind of
line are allowed / Reels: any kind of fly fishing
reels are allowed following the IGFA rules /
Tippets: no less that 12 pound to avoid
stressing the fish / Hooks: single hooks of any
size allowed / Artificial flies only: (no whole
plastic imitation, scent on the flies, or
chumming) Guides are not allowed to give
flies to competitors / Competitor's badge will
be changed daily and must be taken in the
picture with a catch / Guide&boat : You will
fish with you guide for 1 day (TBA) For the
other 2 days boat & guide will be drawn in
order to give to the competitors the same
chance on fishing.
TOURNAMENT ENTRY FEES:
USD 400 PER BOAT WITH 1 OR 2 ANGLERS.

Boundaries : No boundaries, you can fish
everywhere in the Ascension Bay and the lagoon
up to Ultimo Maya area.

THE TOURNAMENT
the Tournament is “fly fishing only” and on a
“Catch&Release” basis.and is a team
tournament with 2 anglers per boat. Each
team will be provided with measuring tape
and tag of the day. Each team must take a
pictures or a video of the fish in order to
validate the catch, Any permit caught must be
photographed or filmed both while in the
water and during the fishing action and on the
boat close to the fishing ribbon to document
the size of the fish and next to the
competitor’s badge. In absence of the picture
or a video the catch will not be listed in the
tournament. Each team/boat must report and
give back badge and measuring tape at the
return from the fishing, Late report until 30
minute will have 10 penalty points (one point=
one inch) After that time or for no-show
penalty will be 50 point.
Tournament follow the IGFA rules.
2017 TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
APRIL 20: 04.00 pm: Punta Allen: meeting at the
park and registration of competitors and last
updates on the tournament.
APRIL 22 : 2nd tournament day , Same program
as 1st day.
APRIL 23: 3th tournament day
Presentation of the team (boat/guide/angler)
participating
Stop fishing at 03.30 pm. and return to the pier
for the final update of the scoreboard.
05.00 pm: Opening of the tournament with
Buffett aperitif in the park. 07.00 pm: Dinner at
your lodge.
05.00 pm: final check and presentation of the
tournament’s winners . Tournament Winner will
receive a prize from the local organization and
will have their names added in “hall of fame“ of
the tournament.
APRIL 21: 1st tournament day
07.00 am: breakfast at your lodge
08.00 am: final briefing with captains
06.30 pm: Buffet party in the park .
08.30 am: start of the 1° day of the competition
with boat/guide/assistant guide and a team of 2
anglers per boat. (lunch/beverage on fishing will
be supplied by your lodge)
During the evening a fly fishing materials
auction will be organized to get resources for the
children.
04.00 pm: all teams stop fishing and return to
Punta Allen pier. If a permit is caught each guide
must note size, name of the angler and picture of
the catch in order to update the scoreboard.
Dinner at your lodge.
April 24: departure day.
APRIL 24 AT 06.30 PM.

SIAN KA'AN BIOSPHERE
Established in 1986 and declared a World Heritage Site
by the UNESCO since 1987. Thousands of years ago the
original Maya appreciated the exceptional natural
beauty of this stretch of coastline, naming it Sian Ka´an,
or “Origin of the Sky". Located on the Eastern coast of the
Yucatan Peninsula in the State of Quintana Roo, Sian Ka
´an is one of Mexico's largest protected areas,
established to manage 528,148 hectares of intricately
linked marine, coastal and terrestrial ecosystems. Along
its roughly 120 kilometers of coastline, the biosphere is
a perfect habitat for hundreds of species of birds, wild
mammals, reptiles and marine life and includes more
that 20 Maya ruins and archeological sites.
"THE PERMIT CAPITAL OF THE WORLD"
Punta Allen lies in the middle of this paradise
and on May 11, 2015 was officially declared as
the “Permit Capital of the World”. Take a walk
in the park to see the big permit sculpture
donated by Italian artist Alberto Coppini for
this important event.
