The weekly newsletter of
Sandringham School
One of our big events of the year is the Christmas
Fayre – Saturday 3rd December 11.00 – 3.00 p.m.
As usual, we ask each student to bring in at least one
item for the Tombola Stall. Items should be brought
to main reception from now on, and by Learning
Review Day at the latest. Parents often prefer to
bring items in on LRD appointments. These items
can be anything that is suitable for a tombola
including chocolate, small gifts and alcohol.
Obviously, alcohol must be brought in by an adult,
hence the use of LRD time for this. The Christmas
Fayre will include all the usual activities with a
fantastic food and drink fayre open all day, various
market stalls, many games activities for children of
all ages and Father Christmas. So, do make a date to
come along and support the school, even for an hour.
Entry is free and I am sure you will enjoy it. All
proceeds go to the school and this is an excellent way
of supporting the education of your child.
By the time you read this the first evening of our
main show of the year, ‘Vaudeville’ will have taken
place. The rehearsals have been very impressive and
I am sure the audiences will love the show. It is a
complete sell out but watch out for any returns that
may come in, if you would still like to see the show.
We will do a full write-up next week so watch this
space.
By now you should all have made your Learning
Review Day appointments. Students will be
receiving their autumn reports on Thursday and I
would be very grateful if you could spend time going
through these prior to the LRD appointments and
obviously bring the report along to the meeting. I am
sure you need no reminding but school is closed next
Friday following LRD, for our annual Occasional
Day.

Mock Interviews
th
Can you spare a few hours on Thursday 19
January 2017 to help our Year 11 students and be part
of our Careers ELD – ‘You’re Hired!’? We would like
to hold a Mock Interview session and, to facilitate this,
we are asking for 40 volunteers to interview our
students.
You will be needed for just a few hours during the
morning, and given a full briefing and interview
guidelines on the day to help you. Your help would be
enormously appreciated as we will be unable to run the
session without enough volunteers.
Although the process is a little nerve-wracking for
our students, feedback from previous years has been
that the Mock Interview has been one of the most
useful parts of the day. Please do get in touch with me
at [email protected] if you can
help. Thank you!

Geography ELD
Last Tuesday, during our second ELD, Y8
Geographers wrapped up in their coats, scarfs and
gloves and met us at Verulamium park. The day gave
students the opportunity to complete a fieldwork
investigation into how well St Albans have managed
their urban issues.
The students visited a range of sites in St Albans
including the Market Square and Sandridge Road. At
each site they carried out key techniques that are used
in geography fieldwork to answer a question. Once the
students had defrosted they worked on presenting their
findings both quantitatively and qualitative in the
classroom.
All students worked really hard and created some
fantastic presentations. Thank you to all the staff who
helped make this day a success.

worked extremely hard on their dance technique and
the students didn’t want to stop dancing and choreographing their own pieces, well done to all.

News
Well done to both the Y7A and B Rugby teams who
took part in the Nicholas Brakespear Tournament. It was a
great start to their rugby at Sandringham with both teams
making clear progress throughout the competition. The B
team showed much promise playing together for the first
time and although losing their games quickly showed that
in the future many of the boys will be key contributors.
The A team performed fantastically winning all their group
games beating Leventhorpe, Roundwood Park, Beaumont
and Verulam B. They then played Verulam A after winning
their group and in a tense and very close game that showed
both teams play exceptionally well in a high standard of
rugby eventually lost out to a Golden try in added time.
The Y8, 9 and 10 teams also played on Saturday in
games against Beaumont. The Y8 boys comfortably won
55-5, the Y9s narrowly lost by a conversion 14-12 after
dominating for most of the game and the Y10 team had a
tough time losing 33-5. It was a good morning of Rugby in
what were some very tough conditions.
The U15 Girls Football Team travelled to London to
play Drayton Manor High School in the third round of the
ESFA National Cup Competition. After taking a few
minutes to settle, the girls soon got into the swing of things
and after a fantastic cross from Rachel Dodd, Amalie
Newman-Booth opened the scoring. She soon followed this
up with a great individual goal, however, Drayton were
quick on the counter attack and scored a brilliant goal,
meaning the first half closed with a 2-1 lead to us. The
second half started rather slowly, with the girls resting on
their laurels, but they soon picked up the pace and Amalie
scored a further 2 goals and was awarded Player of the
Match.
All of the girls put in fantastic performances,
particularly Zoe Hook and Rachel Dodd for their strength
and also Mollie Herrington who made some marvellous
saves. Well done to all involved. Our next match means
that we are in the last 64 in the country and we will face
Swakeleys School at home
On Monday the Y7 girls netball team played
STAGS and came out 8-6 winners in what was a
very tight affair but our girls were triumphant. Well
played girls! The Y7B team then played against
Townsend on Wednesday and won 3-1 in a low
scoring game. There was also a Y8B game against
Townsend which we won 10-1. Well done to all the
girls involved.
On Wednesday the Y9 boys football team were
also in action in the 4th Round of the ESFA National
Cup against Parmiters. The team started slowly and
went down 2-0 to some very sloppy goals and poor
defending, however before half time we were able to
get back into the game with Benny Stacey scoring 2
goals from excellent deliveries. In the 2nd half
Parmiters were on top early on before we quickly
took control of the game and looked to grab the
winner. A lapse in concentration however cost the
team and Parmiters pounced to take the game 3-2. A
good run leaves just the County Cup for the Y9’s.
Also playing Parmiters on Wednesday was the
1st XV in the County Cup. The team started well in
what became a messy game but one we were able to
dominate through some quick back play and strong
forward running. The team eventually took the game
32-15.
I would also like to give a special mention to
Danny Tocher and Max Sweeney who both played
in the U19 Roller Hockey National Finals this
weekend and came first. A great achievement for
two boys who continue to follow their passion. Well
done boys.
