speaker biographies
Walter Limehouse, MD, MA
Dr. Walter Limehouse is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Medical University
of South Carolina (MUSC), Chair of Medical University Hospital Ethics Committee, and Assistant
Director of SC Translational Research Clinical Ethics Program. Walter brings extensive
experience and skill related to palliative medicine, end of life care, and integrating spirituality
into the patient care process. He graduated from MUSC College of Medicine, Medical College of
Wisconsin (MA in bioethics), and College of Charleston. He completed residency at Brown
University.
The Reverand Capers Limehouse, MFA
Reverend Limehouse completed her undergraduate degree at Agnes Scott College and her
graduate degree at Georgia State University – MFA, Creative Writing. She is a Staff Chaplain at
Roper Hospital, Charleston where her primary areas are General Medicine and CVICU, including
working with the Palliative Care Service on those units. She is also the chaplain with Roper
Saint Francis Healthcare’s Ryan White Program where she ministers to both inpatients and
outpatients with HIV/AIDS. Her work also includes a focus on staff support as well as
community education around HIV/AIDS issues, Medical Ethics, and Medicine and Spirituality.
Capers is a Vocational Deacon and Poet-in-Residence at St Stephen’s Episcopal Church in
downtown Charleston.

Note: the University Family Medicine Building at 9298 Medical Plaza Drive is opposite of
Trident’s Emergency Department and Cancer Center, and across the street from Health South.
Please use the hospital parking lot, not the University Family Medicine Building’s parking lot,
since they have patient clinics during the hours of our meeting.

SCHA now offers online registration. To register for this meeting online, visit the SCHA
web calendar, www.scha.org/calendar, select the meeting and click “Register Online” to sign
up! A registration and payment confirmation will be emailed directly to you once you complete
the registration process. To complete the online registration, you will need to use the
username/password that you should have received via email. If you experience problems or

Lunch is included in the registration fee (with vendor support) and the group will have a ‘dutch’
dinner-each attendee pays for his/her meal-at a local restaurant for fellowship and relaxation.

substitution/refund/cancellation
Any registrant who cannot attend may send a substitute from the same organization by
resubmitting an updated registration form to SCHA with the name of the substitute. Notify
SCHA of the substitution via fax to (803) 772-7477. The registration fee is nonrefundable.
continuing education
The SC Society of Chaplains will award 4 hours of CE's for attendance at the event.
