The Everblades have been at the top of the South Division standings all season and currently have 81 points. South Carolina is looking to climb back into the fourth and final playoff spot in the division this weekend. They are now in fifth place with 67 points which is just one behind the Cincinnati Cyclones, who have played two more games than SC. The Stingrays and Everblades have met nine times this year, with the Rays having a slim advantage, going 5-4. Florida is leading the division despite playing the least games of any team in the ECHL. The Everblades are in the top-10 in the league in both offense (9th) and defense (2nd). The team’s penalty killing units are tied for third in the ECHL at rate of 84.6%. Stingrays Top Blades With 2-1 Win During Pink In The Rink Rob Flick scored twice for the second straight game and Parker Milner made 29 saves for the South Carolina Stingrays in a 2-1 defeat of the Florida Everblades in front of 7,078 fans Saturday on Pink In The Rink Night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Flick’s tallies extended his point streak to five games and gave him 29 tallies on the season, while Steven McParland factored into the scoring for the fifth straight game and Milner earned his 19th win of the year. The Rays took a 1-0 lead on Flick’s 28th of the year at 10:27 of the first period and never relinquished the lead. Flick added another strike for the lone goal of the second at 8:38. The Everblades lost 5-2 in Greenville on Friday night before traveling to North Charleston. Forward Brant Harris is the team’s leading scorer with 67 points (25 goals, 42 assists), a total that is 7th in the ECHL through 58 games. Brendan O’Donnell has also had an outstanding season with 62 points (33 goals, 29 assists) despite playing in just 47 games. O’Donnell also spent time on loan with the AHL’s Texas Stars for six games. His goal total of 33 is secondbest in the ECHL. Forward Matt Berry has also hit the 50-point mark this year and added an assist Saturday to bring his season total to 19 goals and 33 assists for 52 points. Zack Kamrass leads the team’s defensemen with 29 points (four goals, 25 assists). Goaltender Anthony Peters has seen the most time in between the pipes for the Everblades this season, appearing in 43 games with a record of 27-12-1-1. The netminder has a goals against average of 2.95 and a save percentage at 0.901 this season. All-Time History vs. Florida South Carolina has a long history with Florida, as Sunday’s matchup will be the 180th all-time meeting between the two clubs. Last seson the Rays went 6-3-1-1 in 11 contests against the Everblades. The team’s all-time series dates back to the 1998-99 season, which was Florida’s first in the ECHL. Sunday’s meeting will be the final matchup between the two during the 2016-17 regular season. SC and Florida have been evenly matched this year, with the Rays taking a 5-4 series lead after Saturday night’s win. Flick Leading The Way Offensively Forward Rob Flick has had points in five straight games for the Stingrays, including two consecutive multi-goal games. The forward leads the team in scoring with 58 points (29g, 29a) in 57 games this season. He also leads the team with 199 shots on goal, and is second on the squad with a +14 rating. McParland Making A Big Impact Forward Steven McParland has made a big impact for South Carolina since returning to the team after playing in three AHL games with the Chicago Wolves. The rookie forward scored twice in the threegame series in Rapid City, and had points in all three contests against Colorado. In last Wednesday’s loss to the Eagles, McParland added his 16th of the year while the Rays were short-handed. Then on Friday, the first-year skater scored his 17th tally in the third period. The Schreiber, Ont. native is third on the Stingrays in scoring this year with 40 points (17 goals, 23 assists) in 50 ECHL games. Tanski Turns Up The Heat Forward Scott Tanski had points in four of the Stingrays’ last five games during their western road trip and has netted power play goals in back-to-back outings. With his power play tally in last Saturday’s 4-1 win, Tanski reached double-digits with 10 goals on the season. The strike turned out to be the game-winner, Tanski’s third GWG of the year. The Burlington, Ont. native has 15 points on the season. Steven McParland and Max Nicastro have each accounted for five points against the Everblades. Goaltender Parker Milner has made six appearances against Florida, and has a record of 3-3-0, while Adam Carlson started three games and has a record of 2-1-0. Milner has the better numbers of the two against the Everblades with a goals against average of 2.18 and a save percentage at 0.929. Stingrays Sign Vankleef The South Carolina Stingrays announced the signing of forward Tyler Vankleef to an amateur try out contract Saturday. The native of Dundas, Ont. played four seasons of college hockey at the Division III level with Curry College. During the 2016-17 season with Curry College, Vankleef scored 30 points (15 goals, 15 assists) in 26 games. In four seasons with the Colonels, the forward played in 102 games and scored 67 points (39 goals, 28 assists). Before his time at school, Vankleef spent one season in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) with the Burlington Cougars and scored 40 points on 21 goals and 19 assists during 52 games. Weinstein also had a point in each of the three games the Stingrays played in Colorado last week. In six games vs. the Eagles this season, Weinstein finished with a total of nine points (2g, 7a). The secondyear blueliner has accumulated 25 points on four goals and 21 assists through 42 ECHL games this year. HOCKEY INFORMATION Stingrays End Eagles’ Streak With 4-1 Win Two first period power play goals gave the South Carolina Stingrays an early lead that they never let go of, ending a streak of 17 consecutive wins by the Colorado Eagles with a 4-1 victory at the Budweiser Event Center on Saturday night. Rob Flick led the way for the Stingrays with two goals in the contest while Scott Tanski scored his 10th of the season and goaltender Parker Milner earned the win with 28 saves. John Parker officially ended the streak, scoring an empty net goal with just seven seconds remaining in the game on an assist by Steven McParland. The Stingrays finished 2-for-7 on the power play in the contest, while Colorado was 1-for-5. Stingrays Come Up Short In Colorado The Colorado Eagles held off a late charge from the South Carolina Stingrays, securing a 5-4 win in a physical contest at the Budweiser Event Center on Friday night. Forwards Rob Flick, Steven McParland and Scott Tanski each had multi-point nights for the Stingrays, all scoring a goal and adding an assist in the loss. Defenseman Colton Saucerman also chipped in with two assists for South Carolina.
