Welcome, or welcome back, to YAAG, the Yale Alumni Association of Greenwich.
We look forward to a new year of engaging you with both Yale and Greenwich. Our
mission as your chapter of the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) is to: promote
fellowship among Yale alumni/ae; help them connect to and learn from Yale; present
Yale to prospective students; support Yale scholars from Greenwich; and aid local
service organizations on behalf of Yale.
You are part of YAAG by virtue of your connection to Yale and your residence in
Greenwich, and we need you. We rely on your annual membership dues to run our
programs, and we value the services which your additional contributions enable us to
provide. To that end, please visit www.yaagct.org, our website. If you have donated
previously, the site provides an automatic renewal notice. For those who prefer paper
payment, enclosed is a form which can be mailed with a check. Whether or not you
use the site for financial transactions, please register there and check back often for
announcements, events, and updates. You will also find information about Yalerelated activities both in New Haven and in the greater Greenwich area.
I would like to recognize the exceptional students whose work YAAG supported last
year. In addition to the Julian Curtiss Scholarship, which assists with Yale tuition for
current undergraduates from Greenwich, we presented Yale Book Awards to Isabel
Baird, Claire Squire, and Charlotte Winkler, and our Community Service Award to
Sam May, graduates of Greenwich High School, Convent of the Sacred Heart,
Greenwich Academy, and Brunswick School, respectively. We also funded the
summer community service research work of Cindy Xue, a Yale junior, with the nonprofit All Our Kin, under the auspices of Dwight Hall.
YAAG’s currently scheduled fall semester activities include the following events
(please find details and RSVP information on the enclosed flyers):
Wednesday, October 7, 6:15 PM, Speaker Dinner at the Field Club of Greenwich
Professor Ian Ayres joins us. A lawyer and economist, he is the William K.
Townsend Professor of Law at Yale Law School and a Professor at Yale School of
Management. He has contributed to Forbes and the Atlantic magazines, public
radio’s Marketplace, and the New York Times Freakonomics blog.
Sunday, December 6, 4:00 PM, Annual Holiday Party and Toy Drive
Don’t miss this festive family event, featuring an a cappella performance by Yale’s
New Blue, as we continue over a decade of giving to Kids in Crisis.
I look forward to seeing you at these occasions or at another event this year. Thank
you for your involvement with YAAG and please like us on facebook.com/yaagct!
Sincerely,
Lisa Beth Friedman Savitz

THE YALE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF GREENWICH (YAAG)
Presents an Evening with Professor Ian Ayres ’81, ’86 JD
Retirement Investing:
The Good, the Bad, and the Crazy
Wednesday, October 7, 2015
6:15 pm Cocktails & 6:45 pm Dinner
The Field Club of Greenwich, 276 Lake Avenue
Professor Ayres will tell you why many Americans are misinvesting their
retirement money – both by failing to adequately diversify across time
and by paying excessive fees. He will describe a seemingly crazy
strategy that can actually reduce the riskiness of your portfolio. He’ll
also present his analysis of 401(k) plans with more than $120 billion in
assets, which reveals the prevalence of “ripoff” funds in which no
reasonable person should invest – but 11% do – as well as 401(k) plans
where excess fees more than consume the benefits of tax deferral.
Ian Ayres, a lawyer and economist, is the William K. Townsend Professor at Yale Law School, the
Anne Urowsky Professorial Fellow in Law, and a Professor at Yale's School of Management. He has
been a columnist for Forbes magazine, a commentator on public radio’s Marketplace, and a
contributor to the New York Times' Freakonomics Blog. His research has been featured on PrimeTime
Live, Oprah, Good Morning America, and in Time and Vogue magazines. Professor Ayres has
published 11 books (including the New York Times best-seller Super Crunchers) and over 100
articles. His latest book is Carrots and Sticks: Unlock the Power of Incentives to Get Things Done. In
2010, he published Lifecyle Investing (with Barry Nalebuff). He is co-founder of stickK.com, a web
site that helps users stick to goals. Professor Ayres is a member of the American Academy of Arts and
Sciences, a winner of the 2006 Scribes book award for legal scholarship, and has been ranked as one
of the most prolific and most cited law professors of his generation, “a law-and-economics guru.”
Publication excerpts and audio and video clips are posted at www.law.yale.edu/ayres/. Additional
video, including TEDxYale, can be found at www.google.com/search?q=ian+ayres+yale+you+tube.
The event cost is $75 per person (including dinner with wine); reservations are required.
Please RSVP by September 30th on our website at www.yaagct.org.
If you have any questions, please e-mail [email protected].
You may also mail the paper form below with a check for $75 payable to “YAAG”.
Please mail to: 15 East Putnam Avenue #337, Greenwich CT, 06830.
