Beloved,
Do you want to learn enough about Jesus’ connection to the Old Testament to become confident enough to share Him with others?
Then this study of Matthew’s Gospel is just for you! Matthew begins with Jesus’ humble birth as son of David, son of Abraham (1:1) and ends with His
universal authority over heaven and earth, His commission to His followers to make and teach disciples of all nations, and His promise to be with them
always, to the end of the age (28:18-20).

You’ll learn how Jesus fulfills prophecy-Matthew’s Gospel is loaded with Old Testament citations that focus on God’s original purpose for the Jew to be “a
light to the Gentiles that [they] may bring salvation to the end of the earth” (Acts 13:47, Isaiah 42:6, 49:6).
And you’ll see Israel like you’ve never seen it before-places where Jesus preached, taught, prayed, and suffered.
Biblical history and the holy land will come alive together!
Getting the Most from This Study
• Try to stay one lesson ahead of me so you’ll learn directly from the Word of God and our time together will be like a “discussion group,” as we reason
together through the Scriptures. You’ll get much more out of our time together if you’ve done this preparation.
• Try to memorise a key verse for every lesson covered. God will bring these to your remembrance when you need them!
• Pray about what you learn each day. Ask God to remind you of these truths and give you another person to share them with. These two exercises will
accomplish amazing things in your life.
• Get the CD set of this series and listen when you get ready for work in the morning, do chores around the house, or have family devotions. Or listen
with an open Bible and discuss the teaching and its application to your life. Get together with a friend, listen to a message, and discuss it or use it for

2. How was Jesus conceived? What do you learn about Mary from this passage? Look up the parallel passage Luke 1:26-35 for
additional information on her character.

Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, who is
called the Messiah.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David
to the deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the deportation to
Babylon to the Messiah, fourteen generations.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been
betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the
Holy Spirit.
19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her,
planned to send her away secretly.
20 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a
dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for
the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people
from their sins.”
22 Now all this took place to fulfil what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
23“Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall
call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”
24 And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him,
and took Mary as his wife,
25 but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus.
