Gain Real Life Skills
Business Professionals of America offers real-life skill development by providing cutting edge
competitions, hands-on learning through co-curricular activities and experiences, and leadership
development on the local, state and national levels.
Participate in Competitive Events
Competitions—Over 50 of them in four categories vital to business:
• Financial Services
• Administrative Support
• Information Technology
• Management/Marketing/Human Resources
Members develop skills by preparing for competitions through hands-on classroom and co-curricular
learning, advancing from regional competition, to state, and then national levels.
Leadership Development
Leadership skills are learned first in the local chapter. Chapter members serve as officers and as heads of
various committees. Skills develop as members run for office and gain responsibilities in a wider scope at
regional, state, and even national levels. As they advance in leadership, members get involved in the
planning and implementation of regional and state conferences and other events.
Lifetime Opportunities
Local chapter interaction with local business people can open the doors to life-long careers for BPA
members. The successful business leader knows his/her responsibility is greater than providing good
products and services. The involvement of business in community betterment and charitable service is
vital. The incentives provided by the BPA awards programs motivates members to prepare for future
community service roles by getting them involved as students. The BPA Alumni Division offers the
opportunity to network with other Alumni members, working together to serve and benefit BPA student
members with their knowledge, experience, and professionalism.
Connect with Business
The BPA member can find connections to business people on the local, state, and national levels of
Business Professionals of America. Local chapters work in cooperation with local business in a variety of
ways:
 with fund-raising companies to raise money for chapter expenses and conference travel/housing

with local companies/corporations to implement win/win activities such as job fairs, community
betterment and charitable drives and activities, professional development activities, and
cooperative student-to-work employment activities
Business people work with regional and state chapters:
 as competitive event judges
 as speakers/presenters/trainers for professional development activities
 as event/conference/program sponsors
 in some cases, as exhibitors at regional/state conferences
National BPA works with business partners, who judge contests, sponsor contests or conference related
items, exhibit, provide scholarships, and sponsor programs/events.
Earn Rewards and Recognition
Members of Business Professionals of America receive awards and recognition for their achievements in
the competitive events program, Torch Awards program, and Special Recognition Awards program.
Besides the thrill of up-front/onstage recognition, BPA award recipients receive (depending on the award)
trophies, plaques, medallions, pins, and certificates. These serve as lasting testimonies of their
achievements.
Competitive Events—Members that place in regional, state, and national competition receive onstage
recognition and plaques or trophies. At the national level members are recognized onstage to the tenth or
eighth place (receiving medallions), and places one-three receive plaques or trophies.
Torch Awards—Individual achievement program that presents awards to qualifiers on the local, regional,
state, and national level. Members earn points towards these levels by completing activities in leadership,
service, cooperation, knowledge, friendship, love-hope-faith, and patriotism. Recipients receive a
certificate and pin at each level of qualification, and often, public stand-up or onstage recognition as well.
Special Recognition Awards—comprised of both chapter and individual awards, this program recognizes
all qualifiers with certificates. At the national level, Outstanding
Achievement qualifiers are called onstage to receive plaques.
Attend Conferences and Workshops
Membership in BPA presents the opportunity to participate in fun, learning-packed conferences and
workshops on the regional, state, and national levels. The National Leadership Conference hosts the
national level contests, the National Leadership Academy, spectacular special events, presentations and
workshops, the election of national officers, a dynamic sightseeing/tour program, and an Expo & Career
Fair which brings business products and services to the members in attendance.

and activities with others with similar interests. In their chapters, members work together to conduct
meetings and plan activities and events. Chapter members serve on committees that bear the
responsibility for various types of activities including professional development, financial, community
service, promotional and social. BPA members also work together on activities that qualify them for
Special Recognition and Torch Awards
