A vocabulary building activity for secondary classrooms.
Instructions for classroom teacher:
This is a word-wall/vocabulary activity that I use with all my units. This particular one is
designed for Robin Hood unit but, you may change the words and sentences to suit your needs
for any unit.
1. Cut the vocabulary words (found on the second page of the activity) into strips and
place upside down on a desk.
2. Divide the class into teams, with each student having their own copy of page one of the
activity.
3. Students work in their teams to predict suitable words to fill in the blanks for each
sentence.
4. One student from each team is the runner and he/she runs to get one of the actual
vocabulary words from the desk and brings it back to their team.
5. The team works to decide which sentence the word best fits. Everyone fills in their own
sheets.
6. The runner goes back to get another word, and so on, until all the blanks are filled.
