Restrictions for iPad`s

The aim of this workshop is to extend parent
knowledge of iPad restrictions and their uses.
I will be providing a step by step program guiding you through
setting the appropriate restrictions for your own or your
child/children’s iPad.
At the end of the session you should:
• Be able to set specific age appropriate restrictions for the
person using the iPad.
• Have a clearer understanding of how to manage
restrictions on your iPads.
• Be aware of the ways specific restrictions can
encourage ‘safe surfing.’
• Feel confident that you can leave your child/children
alone with their iPad and not be at risk of seeing or
hearing inappropriate content.
• Feel relaxed knowing your children cannot damage
your bank balance by purchasing apps or ‘add-ons.’

Step 1
To change any
settings on
your iPad you
must tap on
this icon.
If you have your iPad with you today please tap away
and follow the steps.

Step 2
Make sure you have
tapped on ‘General’
and scroll down on
your right until you
are able to see
‘Restrictions’

Step 3
‘Restrictions’ is the
next thing you need
to tap on.

Step 4
We are about to
manage our
restrictions.
When you tap on
‘Enable Restrictions’
you will be prompted to
create a passcode.
Ideally you should make the passcode DIFFERENT to
any that your children may already know such as the
passcode used to unlock your device!

Step 5
You will be asked to type your Restrictions passcode in twice so
make sure it is something you are going to remember!

Step 6
It is important that
you consider setting
restrictions in this
section before moving
onto the ones in the
next slide.
Not only will they protect your child/children they will also protect
your bank balance!

Step 7
If you scroll down on the
right hand side of your iPad
you will see a list of content
that you can set restrictions
for.
Make sure your
ratings are set to
United Kingdom
These settings will need to be set differently for each of you –the age of
the audience using the iPad depends on how strict you are with the
restrictions you set.

Step 8
Lets look at the
restrictions for
films.
Begin by tapping on ‘Don’t allow films’. This will clear all
choices and allow you to decide which films you would like to
be accessed on the iPad. Once complete, tap Restrictions
then continue on through the list.
Other restrictions to consider setting
Volume Limit restriction is
important to support the
health of your
child/children’s hearing.
This should be considered.
Also if you use the iPad
yourself for work/personal
purposes, i.e. managing
emails and contacts you may
want to consider the
‘Accounts’ restriction.
It is your decision as a parent/carer to decide on the
appropriate content to be accessed by your children.
No one can decide for you – you know your children
best!
Things to consider when making your decision :
• How would I feel if the content I am choosing for my child
was content they could access in school?
• Based on my child/children’s sensibility, can they be trusted
to have access to content that is rated above their age?
• Will any other children - such as friends - have access to the
iPad? If so, what would be appropriate for them to use?
