Paper today is made from rags or wood chips. People once wrote on
material made from reeds or bark or animal skins.
Copy these words and find their dictionary meanings.
parchment The skin of certain animals treated to form a suitable
medium for writing on.
vellum A fine parchment made form the skin of a calf, kid or lamb.
papyrus
A kind of paper made from a special reed used by the
Ancient Greeks.
paper A substance made from the cellulose fibres derived from wood
or rags. Also used for writing on and wrapping.
Add these words to the word “paper” and write a meaning for each new

Two stages:
1. breaking down the wood fibres and suspending them in water.
2. spread out this liquid and allow the water to drain away and dry.
The result is then compressed into sheets making the paper.
