Lesson 4 God Makes Naaman Pure Lower Elementary OPENING 2 Kings 5; Colossians 3:17 Allow 5 minutes • Welcome each child, and help children get acquainted in your group. • Ask what kids remember about today’s large-group lesson. t The Point u We want to be pure before God. • Let kids share news or prayer requests, and pray with them. • SHARE Say: Naaman had a disease that made him look gross and dirty. He needed to be clean. Tell a partner about a time you got the dirtiest you’ve ever been. Allow time. Pure and Spotless YOU’LL NEED Use your whole body for the glory of God.—Romans 6:13 washable markers • wet wipes 1. SET IT UP Say: Although Naaman was a mighty warrior, he wasn’t pure because he suffered from a disease called leprosy that left sick spots all over his body. Group Activity Key Verse Allow 10 minutes 2.THINK Give each child a washable marker. Say: Think about some sins that you’ve done. Maybe you’ve told a lie or said something mean. As you think of each thing, draw a spot on your hand. Allow time. 3.ERASE Give each child a wet wipe. Say: uWe want to be pure before God, but none of us can do that on our own. No matter what we’ve done, God is willing to forgive us and make us pure again. All we have to do is accept the free gift of forgiveness that God offers to us through Jesus’ death on the cross. Take a few minutes to ask God’s forgiveness for things you’ve done. As you talk to God, wipe the spots off your hands. Allow time. 4.DISCUSS • How is washing away the spots like or unlike getting forgiveness from God? • What’s one way you’ll commit to letting God help you be pure this week? 5. MAKE THE CONNECTION Say: No matter what impurities we have, God offers to wash us and make us pure and spotless again. uWe want to be pure before God. SAY THE VERSE Say: Our Key Verse is from Romans 6:13. Let’s say this verse Use your whole body for the glory of God (Romans together: 6:13). Now make up a voice for your Bendable Person. Turn to your neighbor, and have your Bendable Person say the verse. 3. PARTNER UP Form pairs. Say: Let’s find ways to give God glory with other people. With your partner, use your bendable people to show how you can give God glory with someone else. Your people could sing a song together, encourage each other, pray together, or anything else you can think of. Allow time. 4.DISCUSS • What are some ways you could use your body to honor God? • Why do those things show glory to God? 5. MAKE THE CONNECTION Say: We can use our bodies whether we’re alone or in a large group to give God glory. You may take your bendable people home with you today as a reminder to use your bodies to give God glory. 6. SEND HOME Let each child take home a Bible Memory Maker. Living Inside Out Every Day! DISTRIBUTE Give a copy of today’s “Living Inside Out Every Day!” handout to each child. Say: This paper has ideas for how you can live inside out this week. His skin was diseased and unclean. But God showed him how to become clean and pure when Naaman went to Elisha, a prophet, and Elisha told Naaman to wash in the Jordan river seven times. God wants to clean and purify our hearts and lives, too. Do You Remember? t The Point u We want to be pure before God. Talk about these questions with your child: • What does it mean when God makes our hearts pure? Key Verse • Why do you think it’s important to God for us to be pure? Use your whole body for the glory of God.—Romans 6:13 Live It Challenges Choose a Challenge! Your child chose the marked challenge for the week. Help your child remember to follow through and live out his or her faith. CHALLENGE 1 Write a story about a child your age choosing to honor God. CHALLENGE 2 Each morning this week, pray that God will make your heart pure that day. Throughout your day, try to make good choices and ask God for forgiveness if you do something wrong. CHALLENGE 3 With your parent’s permission, find an old shirt and get it as dirty as possible. Then try to clean it. As you do, think about why purity is so important to God. Clean Before My Lord You’ll Need 1.Gather your family, and together list all your family’s activities, such as the TV shows you watch or games you play. paper • pencil 2.Circle activities that help you honor God. 3. Cross out those that don’t honor God. 4.Make a plan of how to cut out the things that aren’t honoring to God. 99.9% Pure 1.Gather your family, and put one drop of food coloring into the water. 2.Discuss how one little drop of impurity ruined the whole glass of water. You’ll Need clear glass of water • food coloring 3.Name impurities that cause our hearts to be like the glass of water. 4.Pray together that God will make your hearts pure.
