Lower Elementary
OPENING
2 Kings 5; Colossians 3:17
Allow 5 minutes
• Welcome each child, and help children get acquainted in your group.
• Ask what kids remember about today’s large-group lesson.
t The Point u
We want to be pure
before God.
• Let kids share news or prayer requests, and pray with them.
• SHARE
Say: Naaman had a disease that made him look gross and dirty.
He needed to be clean. Tell a partner about a time you got the
dirtiest you’ve ever been. Allow time.
Pure and Spotless YOU’LL NEED
Use your whole body for the glory
of God.—Romans 6:13
washable markers • wet wipes
1. SET IT UP
Say: Although Naaman was a mighty warrior, he wasn’t pure
because he suffered from a disease called leprosy that left sick
spots all over his body.
Group Activity
Key Verse
Allow 10 minutes
2.THINK
Give each child a washable marker. Say: Think about some sins that
you’ve done. Maybe you’ve told a lie or said something mean. As
you think of each thing, draw a spot on your hand. Allow time.
3.ERASE
Give each child a wet wipe. Say: uWe want to be pure before God,
but none of us can do that on our own. No matter what we’ve
done, God is willing to forgive us and make us pure again. All we
have to do is accept the free gift of forgiveness that God offers to
us through Jesus’ death on the cross. Take a few minutes to ask
God’s forgiveness for things you’ve done. As you talk to God, wipe
the spots off your hands. Allow time.
4.DISCUSS
• How is washing away the spots like or unlike getting forgiveness
from God?
• What’s one way you’ll commit to letting God help you be pure
this week?
5. MAKE THE CONNECTION
Say: No matter what impurities we have, God offers to wash us and
make us pure and spotless again. uWe want to be pure before
God.

2. SAY THE VERSE
Say: Our Key Verse is from Romans 6:13. Let’s say this verse
Use your whole body for the glory of God (Romans
together:
6:13). Now make up a voice for your Bendable Person. Turn to your
neighbor, and have your Bendable Person say the verse.
3. PARTNER UP
Form pairs. Say: Let’s find ways to give God glory with other
people. With your partner, use your bendable people to show how
you can give God glory with someone else. Your people could sing
a song together, encourage each other, pray together, or anything
else you can think of. Allow time.
4.DISCUSS
• What are some ways you could use your body to honor God?
• Why do those things show glory to God?
5. MAKE THE CONNECTION
Say: We can use our bodies whether we’re alone or in a large group

The Inside Truth
Your child learned that Naaman had leprosy. His skin was
diseased and unclean. But God showed him how to become
clean and pure when Naaman went to Elisha, a prophet, and
Elisha told Naaman to wash in the Jordan river seven times. God
wants to clean and purify our hearts and lives, too.
Do You Remember?
t The Point u
We want to be pure
before God.
Talk about these questions with your child:
• What does it mean when God makes our hearts pure?
Key Verse
• Why do you think it’s important to God for us to be pure?
Use your whole body for the glory of
God.—Romans 6:13

your child remember to follow through and live out his or
her faith.

heart pure that day. Throughout your day, try to make
good choices and ask God for forgiveness if you do
something wrong.
CHALLENGE 3
With your parent’s permission, find an old shirt and get it
as dirty as possible. Then try to clean it. As you do, think
about why purity is so important to God.
