The Angmering School
Weekly News
This is our weekly newsletter for parents, students and friends of the school. We want to give you
news about what is happening in school, exciting things, future events and things we would like to
see happen.
Issue Date: Week 26 Friday 27 March 2015
HEADTEACHER’S END OF TERM MESSAGE
This has been a very important term for students sitting exams in May and June.
Coursework is nearly all complete and exam practice and preparation is in full flow. For
parents it is a time to help our students with revision and simple testing is a key thing
you can do with them. You can also help them relax and manage their emotions in the
build up to exams.
Our staff have been working hard too! They have been planning and delivering
lessons and marking lots of work. They can be seen here into the evening and before
school. We are very lucky to have such a diligent, committed and skilful staff team.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Shaw who is leaving us after nearly 20
years. She has been an excellent teacher and a strong advocate for students with
hearing impairment. She has been a key member of our learning support leadership
team, periodically preparing the timetable for all
students with special needs. We wish her well
in her new promoted post as a Deputy Head of
Rachel Madocks School in Hampshire.
Finally I would like to wish all of our parents,
students and staff an enjoyable Easter break.
D T Brixey
Headteacher
Did you know that Ofsted have a website, “Parent View” which gives parents the chance to tell them what you
think about your child’s school. It will ask you for your opinion on 12 aspects of your child’s school, from the
quality of teaching, to dealing with bullying and poor behaviour.
Ofsted will use the information you provide when making decisions about which schools to inspect, and when.
We would really appreciate you taking the time to look at this website and complete the survey.

Library News
Congratulations to Hannah Titchener of
7RT and Darcey Luscombe 9RA who
have together won the Library's World
Book Day treasure hunt.
Well done to everyone who
supported the library events for
World Book Day. Book Aid
International have written to
thank all staff and students for
the £40 we sent them. This will
enable them to send brand
new books to public and
community libraries in
sub-Saharan Africa.
Book Aid International is
dedicated to changing lives
through books.
Well done to our students who ran their own cake stall in aid of Down's
Syndrome awareness week. They worked very hard and donated some
very tasty cakes for the occasion.
Y10 and Y12 Public Services’ Students meet the Royal Marine Commandos
A group of Y10 and Y12
Public Services' students had the rare opportunity to
meet and experience the work of a Royal Marine
Commando. The fun filled event included high speed
boat rides, climbing, physical training activities and an un-armed combat
display. The students came away from the experience with a greater
appreciation of what a career in the Armed Forces has to offer.
Look out for an article and photos from Holocaust survivor
Dorit Oliver’s visit, in the next edition of Weekly News.

FREE FALL ABSEIL FOR CHARITY
On 9th May 2015 Ms Holmes is completing a free fall abseil down the UK's tallest sculpture the Acelormittal Orbit at the Olympic Park London! 114 metres high to be
precise!
She is raising money for ECHO (Evelina Children's Heart Organisation)
which supported her family during her daughter, Emily’s heart surgery.
ECHO provided support by putting them in contact with parents going
through the same issues or helping out with practical things.
Ms Holmes feels it's time to give something back to an amazing charity
and an amazing hospital and had decided to complete the abseil. If you
are able to support her then please follow the link to her just giving page:

Gold Stars of the week is a reward system
where teachers nominate
students for
working consistently at Gold standard
which is above and beyond expectations.
Students then have the opportunity to
meet with the Headship team to discuss
their achievements and work.
The students are rewarded with 25 credits
and a well done letter to take home to
share their success with parents/
guardians. We feel this is an excellent
reward system for the students to share
their success with the Headship team.
Congratulations to this week’s
Gold Stars of the Week: Holly
Chant 7HA, Sydney-Dawn Moore
7HH, Florence Funnell 11TH,
Heidi Budgen 11GN.

Well done to Chrissie Bhima for being awarded Festival
Performer of the Year 2015 at Worthing Music and Arts

The festival introduced this prestigious award this year. To
be eligible to be named Festival Performer of the Year you
had to enter at least ten classes across a minimum of any
three different sections from this year's festival: Dance,
Singing, Piano, Speech and Drama, Instrumental. The
best three marks in each section were totalled, and then
the competitor chose their next best mark from any of the
sections to give a grand total aggregate mark for the 10
solo classes. She gained first places in Dance, Singing
and Speech & Drama. Huge congratulations to Chrissie
on being the first winner of this incredible new award!

Last weeks solution:
The diagram shows part of the ceramic. A and B are vertices of the outer octagon, which has O at its centre. The lines OA, OB, two lines which
are parallel to AB and lines parallel to OA and OB respectively have
been added. As can be seen, these lines divide △OAB into nine congruent triangles.
The shaded portion of triangle has area equal to that of two of the
smaller triangles. So 29of the area of △OAB has been shaded. Now,
the area of the outer octagon is eight times the area of △OAB and the
area of shaded portion of the design is eight times the area of the shaded portion of △OAB. Therefore, the fraction of the octagon which is shaded is also 29.
