If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation
Three months into our season of renewal, I hope you are still “Rooted in God” and he is
providing you with the power to understand how wide, long, high and deep his love is to
keep you up straight against the prevailing stormy winds of persuasion and providing you
with the network of solid roots in the form of faith, hope, love and courage to hold you
firm and keep you standing up straight.
But during such a time we need to be reminded of one most dangerous professional
smooth talking thief/killer.
He is like a chameleon he blends so well with his environment that makes it difficult to
pick him out of the crowd. He is quick like a laser beam but smoothly silent like moonlight
and that gives him the skill to silence any types of security system you have put in place
in your heart’s door. You wouldn’t notice because when he is in, he captivates your
attention and you find yourself calling him your best friend. Being your friend, and with
the highest IQ you have ever known, he will rearrange all the facts you believe in just
enough to gain your affinities. You will also find yourself defending him when those
around you begins to question his character, and the way he is conforming your
behaviour and attitude against what matters, and with it goes your hope.
What does he really do? Steal your time and incentive, replacing your priceless valuables
with cheap substitutes like feeling of guilt, excuses, depression, self-doubt, inadequacy,
rationalisations, empty promises and embarrassment. He always comes at the moment
you relax your defences and sweet talks you into going against the old sayings that
“never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” He out-talks any students when
it comes to schoolwork, outsmarts any sales person when comes to selling, outlasts any
parents when it comes to discipline. He has only one goal and one product that he
centres all his energy to achieving. It is to DEFEAT you, and he wins every time,
He has be talked about a lot in the scriptures but never mentioned by name. Jesus gave a
parable about what he steals in Matthew 25:1-13 about the ten virgins awaiting the
arrival of the bridegroom and the commencement of the wedding feast. Five of the
virgins were prepared for his arrival; but the other five didn’t attempt to prepare until it

commitment to serving God, the community and one another.
was too late. Jesus called these unprepared virgins ‘foolish’ because they thought, “Why
buy the extra oil now? There is no shortage so we can get it when we want it.”
Are you in anyway able to stop this intimidating giant thief/killer from breaking and
entering into your heart I hear you asked? Yes, and today is your D-day. All it takes is one
simple word. It’s like David’s one simple stone that struck Goliath on his forehead and
down he went {1 Samuel 17}. This thief can’t endure the sound of it, because it sends him
fleeting in frustration. If you use this word often enough this thief will get tired of hearing
it and leave you alone. This is the deal: I tell you the word and you promise to use it right
away to avoid the temptation of listening to his smooth fast-talking buzzer. But there is a
very serious warning! It may be easy to say you will – but it will require all the discipline
you can muster to mean it. Its implementation will demand the power of God himself.
And the word is NOW. Yes! That is the word. Now is the time to pray, now is the time to
read the word of God, now is the time to study the word of God, now is the time not to be
late for church, work, appointments, now is the time,… This professional thief/killer is
called PROCRASTINATION! Why not dig deeper into its root and kill it with God’s power
drill: Proverbs 31:10-31; Acts 24:22-25; 2 Corinthians 8:10-15; Ephesians 5:14-17; James
4:13-17
Remember; NOW is the time to grow tall and strong like a tree planted by the water,
NOW is the time to commit yourself to grow strong in your prayer, worship, studying the
word of God, community service, and NOW is the time to grow strong in the wisdom and
ways of your heavenly Father. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has
gone, the new has come.” {2 Corinthians 5:17}

WOW Opera gave us another great afternoon of opera on 30 April. Thanks to Sally and
Jeremy and to all the singers. They really enjoy coming to All Saints because they say
we’re a very lively audience. They are all top professionals and give their time for
expenses. We are enormously fortunate to have them. Thanks too, of course, to all All
Saints members who stewarded, brought food, served food and generally helped out.
All Saints made about £180 from the concert and WOW covered their costs but above all
we welcomed over 100 people into church, many of whom had not visited us before.
