Objective Statement: Celebrate the 100th Anniversary by incorporating a “Cookie Share” program as part of your Troop Cookie Program. Set a goal of donating 100 boxes to an agency of your choice. Directions: Girls should choose one activity from the Discover and Connect sections; all girls should do the cookie share program from the Take Action section. Upon completion of the program, visit the 100th Anniversary page of the council website at www.girlscoutsksmo.org to share your experience with us and enter to win an all-expense-paid trip! Don’t forget to share your best photos of your girls in action by emailing them to [email protected]! Keep in mind that you can use the activities listed in each section as a jumping off point. If a specific activity or topic interests the girls more than others, they can create other, related, activities and spend as much time on a topic as the girls want. Discover (choose one option): 1. Complete the Cookie Pin and learn more about the 5-Skills of the Cookie Program http://www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_cookies/pdf/2010_gs_cookie_activity_pin.pdf. 2. Research the Girl Scout Cookie Sale. a. Find out about the history of the program? How and when did it start? What types of cookies were originally offered? b. How many different bakers currently provide cookies? What are the differences of cookies that come from different bakers? How does our Cookie Program work? c. Watch the “What Can a Cookie Do” video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Wy31SsNPv4. 3. Host a Cookie Tasting Party using the original cookie recipes or make new fun desserts using the existing cookies. Connect (choose one option): 1. Locate an agency where you can donate boxes of cookies. Visit the agency and learn what they do and the people they help. 2. Partner with another troop to learn about the cookie program and its history. Help them complete the Cookie Pin. 3. Promote the start of Cookie Program. a. Consider hosting a cookie rally or financial literacy workshop for your troop or Service Unit. b. Help the girls host a parent meeting about the 5-Skills gained in the cookie program, the sale and their cookie share program, and why the cookie program is important to them. Consider showing the “What Can a Cookie Do” video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Wy31SsNPv4 c. Host a media opportunity with your local community. Consider having cookies and milk with the mayor, visiting your local TV station or newspaper or hosting community cookie tasting programs. Please note - if involving the local media, please contact the Council Brand and Marketing Director at [email protected] before you contact media. Take Action (complete the Cookie Share program): There is only one option in the “Take Action” section of this program because we want to make a huge impact! If every girl sells cookies, and every girl participates in the Cookie Share program, imagine how many people will benefit! Create a “Cookie Share” program. Choose an agency or organization – consider the military, food banks, domestic abuse shelters or other similar option. While selling cookies, give your customers the option of purchasing cookies for themselves or for your chosen agency. After the cookie program is over, take the boxes of cookies to the agency. Set a troop goal of donating 100 boxes (or more) in honor of the 100th anniversary. Capture pictures of your Cookie Share program or cookie booths. Choose the best and email to [email protected]. Don’t forget to promote your Cookie Share program! During the sale, consider making posters or flyers to let your customers know more about the agency and where their donation is going. Consider making a goal poster to show how many boxes have been donated. Journey Connections: If you are planning to work on the “It’s Your World – Change It” Journey series (or others) consider continuing the relationship with the agency you worked with for your “Cookie Share” program. Once you have completed the program, go to the 100th Anniversary portion of the website ( www.girlscoutsksmo.org) and look for the Report and Trip Entry form link. Complete the online form; once you click “submit” your troop is automatically entered in the drawing! If you have photos you would like to share, email them to [email protected]. Questions?
