Principal Daniel B. Frank ’74
Consistent with Parker’s mission and strategic plan, this past year featured exciting
developments expanding Parker’s commitment to excellence in progressive
education for all students. Toward this end, the faculty provided students with
ongoing opportunities to cultivate intellectual curiosity, cultural competency and
personal resiliency in their lives. And thanks to the tremendous support of the
Parker community, we celebrated historic achievements and created inclusive
processes to reaffirm our identity as a school community.
Taking multiple perspectives into account, Parker took a fresh look at JK–12
mathematics education. Mathematics teachers from across the school collaborated
to enhance their classroom teaching, curriculum development and program coordination, while Dr.
Eugenia Cheng—noted mathematician, pianist and scientist in residence at the School of the Art Institute
of Chicago—helped make complex mathematical concepts more accessible to parents and students alike (be
sure to read the Winter 2017 issue of The Live Creature for more about math at Parker).
After a multi-year effort, Parker completed its Founding Our Second Century Campaign at the beginning of
the 2015–16 school year. The generosity of the Parker community helped propel this campaign beyond its $89
million milestone, raising more than $94 million for the school, providing Parker with increased opportunity
to empower our students with the inspiration, vision and skills that come from a Parker education.
In addition, teachers, administrators and students engaged in thoughtful, in-depth discussions about their
personal identities. This endeavor contributed to a substantive dialogue about the best ways to support all
learners so that each person feels known, valued and included. Similarly, in an effort to continually improve
and better communicate the value of a Parker education, we also spent the year engaged in research to learn
from the myriad insights our alumni, parents, students, faculty and others shared about their perceptions
and experience of our school.
Each photograph tells a story about the affirmative experiences that shaped student and adult relationships
with Parker during the past academic year. I am deeply grateful to every individual, family and organization
that helped support educational life and the spirit of learning here. Please click on any of the photos to learn
more about what Parker is achieving on behalf of its students now and will strive to achieve in the future.

Board of Trustees President
Brent Gledhill
In the 2015–16 school year, Francis W. Parker School advanced its mission by
educating students to think and engage as citizens and act with empathy, clarity and
courage. I am highly appreciative and proud of our administration, faculty, students
and passionately engaged community. We have much to be thankful for.
Students thrived in a dynamic and vibrant educational environment where citizenship,
creativity and curiosity drive academic pursuits. Our imaginative, expert faculty
and administration used curriculum and teaching to achieve our strategic goals of
educational leadership and an energetic community rooted in the values of diversity
and inclusivity. The Board of Trustees focused on the school’s long-term vitality and
sustainability while working with the administration to support our vision and plan for the future. Noteworthy
is the Board’s increased attention to access and affordability, contemplating how to address one of society’s
current challenges: the rising cost and increasing exclusivity of private education. To this end, the Board and
the administration reached a collaborative, six-year collective bargaining agreement with our faculty that will
help all parties plan during a longer time period.
Building our endowment is the most impactful way to address access and affordability while maintaining
our leadership in progressive education and enabling our facility and related resources. To that goal, we
completed the 2015–16 year in fiscally sound condition, operating with a balanced budget of $32 million and
an endowment balance of $42.9 million.
Also important, the community remained intensely committed to Parker in all areas of school life. I appreciate
tremendously the many contributions of time, talent and financial resources from all constituencies—parents,
faculty, administrators, alumni, parents emeriti, grandparents and friends—who have facilitated our ability to
live our mission each day. Intentionally, our operating model has tuition and fees covering only 85 percent of
our operating cost. Annual fundraising efforts and an appropriate annual draw (targeted at 5 percent) from our
endowment fund the gap. Highlights of this year’s support include:
n
7 8 percent of parents participated in the Parent Annual Giving Program (PAGP), contributing
more than $1.2 million.
n
$1.4 million was raised for the financial aid program in a single night at our biennial Parker Auction.
n
8 percent of Parker alumni contributed single annual gifts ranging from $10 to $50,000.
The 2015–16 year also marked the close of the Founding Our Second Century (FOSC) Campaign, a historic
fundraising effort that has made possible the complete renovation of our campus and significant growth in our
endowment, as detailed within this report. This $94 million campaign is an important milestone in Parker’s
116-year history, positioning the school for continued success well into the future. We cannot say thank you
enough to Lori Kaufman, John Levi and the many campaign and development team members for the tireless
effort that led to such a successful campaign, permitting us to transform our curriculum and facility while
delivering significant endowment growth.
I encourage our entire community to appreciate the unique experience of Francis W. Parker School and
celebrate all that we have accomplished together in strengthening and moving the school’s mission forward. I
invite all of you to participate in helping our community to be inspiring, inclusive and supportive.
Thank you for your continued engagement in our community.

Founding Our Second Century
Campaign
Thanks to the generosity and continued dedication of our parents, parents emeriti, alumni, faculty, staff and
friends, the Founding Our Second Century Campaign surpassed its goal of $89 million in 2015, raising more
than $94 million for enhanced facilities as well as endowments dedicated to programming, financial aid and the
school’s long-term financial stability. During the campaign, Parker’s endowment more than tripled, from $14
million to nearly $43 million. Parker also successfully met its goal for the Heller Challenge, securing the 4:3 match
to establish The Diane and David B Heller Scholarship Fund: An Additive Fund of $7 million to support financial
aid at the school. In November 2015, the community gathered at the Hyatt Regency to commemorate these
milestone achievements at the Founding Our Second Century Campaign Celebration. The Campaign represents
our school community’s largest fundraising effort to date, and we are honored to have had the help of so many
parents, without whom we would not have reached our goal. The Campaign made possible the innovative TIDES
(Technology, Innovation, Design thinking, Entrepreneurship for Society) initiative, which continues to evolve by
giving students in every grade opportunities to collaborate, think creatively, problem-solve and apply technology
to make an impact in their surrounding community. During the 2015–16 school year, TIDES fueled 23 gradelevel collaborations in JK–12, 410 students across all divisions engaged in design thinking projects, and the Upper
School Social Entrepreneurship class, led by Principal Dan Frank and Director of Cross Curricular Pedagogy
Marty Moran, produced two viable startup concepts. We are grateful for the endless support of this community.
Your contributions of time, energy and capital continue to make Parker a special place for students to grow.
This list recognizes all donors who made a commitment to the Founding Our Second Century Campaign between
July 1, 2003 and June 30, 2016.

Parker’s Endowment Funds
Parker’s endowment funds allow us to support our students, empower our teachers and strengthen
our community. Unrestricted contributions to the endowment and the establishment of named funds are one
way to ensure Parker’s financial sustainability.
The Susan F. Berkowitz Award for Outstanding Service to Children, established in 1999, honors the life and
work of the late Dr. Susan F. Berkowitz. Parker’s continuing support of this student-run award is a testament to
Dr. Berkowitz’s many good works at the school, her devotion to the well-being of all children and her spirit and
approach to life.
The Financial Aid Fund represents Parker’s commitment to provide essential assistance for Parker families
who need support.
The General Endowment Fund, which enables Parker to invest in the life of the school, provides unrestricted
funding to support faculty development, education programs and financial assistance.
The Global Travel Fund provides financial assistance and supports initiatives for students, regardless of financial
ability, to travel abroad for educational purposes. Through travel, the fund makes it possible to experience,
understand and value the differing beliefs of others, a necessary skill students need to thrive in an increasingly
interconnected and multicultural world.

Parent Annual Giving Program
The Parent Annual Giving Program (PAGP), an essential Parker initiative, helps make up the gap between the
cost of tuition and the cost of educating each Parker student. We thank the 78 percent of families who assisted
the school in reaching its budgetary obligations for the past academic year. This list recognizes parents who made
PAGP contributions during the fiscal year July 1, 2015–June 30, 2016.

Anita McCormick Blaine
Planned Giving Society
Anita McCormick Blaine, Parker’s founding benefactor, established Francis W. Parker
School when she contributed more than $3 million to cover the financial needs of the
school for its first 30 years—from 1901 to 1931.
Thanks to her founding gift and the generosity of so many that have given in her memory, today
more than 900 students and their families enter our school each fall to begin a year-long process
of learning and growth. These students are creative, open-minded, intellectually curious and
resilient learners who rely on a community of supporters, like you, to enrich the educational experience at our school.
At the beginning of its second century, Parker created the Anita McCormick Blaine Planned Giving Society. A planned
gift provides the opportunity for donors to help secure the school’s future while also incurring tax benefits either during
their lives or through their estates. Mrs. Blaine’s outstanding commitment is echoed by many parents, parents emeriti,
alumni and friends who have helped ensure the school’s future by including Parker in their wills and estate plans.
A planned gift is a special gift. It connects your story and past with Parker’s future. Whether you are passionate
about supporting our endowment, financial aid, programs, facilities or general operations, your contribution
impacts the experience of every student today and may well strengthen their bond with Parker in the future.
