English
This term our English work will be linked to our history topics (Romans and Anglo-Saxons). We will study Roman
myths, develop our understanding of report writing and extend our vocabulary through studying various types of poetry. We will be completing Big Write sessions fortnightly, so don’t forget to come into class and have a look at your
child’s writing on the wall! Our weekly spelling test will be held on a Wednesday with new spellings going home to prac-

Thank you for your on-going support at home!
Please continue to listen to your child read and carry out
maths activities with them at least four times per week.
Home Learning Deadlines:
Autumn 1: Monday 17th October 2016
Autumn 2: Monday 12th December 2016
P.E. will be on a X and
Thursday this term.
Please ensure that your
child has a named kit in
school for these sessions.
This term we will be studying the Romans
and the Anglo-Saxons as part of our topic
work. Our work will be based around enquiry
questions, such as ’What did the Romans do
for fun?’ and ’Why did the Anglo-Saxons
settle in England?’ We would encourage pupils to read around these topics. Both the
school library and the local libraries have
lots of history books for children. Also, if
you or someone you know has any particular
expertise in this area then please do not
hesitate to come and speak to Miss Kerrison
or Mr King to organise a visit or a talk.
Trips
This term, Year 4 will visit the Anglo-Saxon village in West
Stow, to develop their understanding of how people lived
during this period of history.
