The College
Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview is a leading independent non-selective boys’ school for Years 5-12. It
is a Catholic day and boarding school run by the Society of Jesus and moulded in the Ignatian tradition.
Established in 1880, the mission of the College is to provide an all-round education that inspires boys to
a life-long development of their faith. This means they will seek understanding, strive for justice and
commit to the service of others with discernment, conscience and compassion.
The College is situated at Lane Cove, Sydney and consists of two campuses co-located on 45 hectares
of land. Currently more than 1550 students attend the College, 330 of whom are boarders.
The Gartlan Centre is Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview’s major indoor sporting facility. The Centre
comprises an indoor swimming pool, a gymnasium, indoor basketball courts, indoor cricket nets, a rock
climbing wall, staff and teaching facilities, store rooms, change rooms (including showers and toilets).

Role purpose
The Sports Centre Supervisor / Competitions Coordinator is inspired at all times by the highest Ignatian
ideals of Companionship and Collegiality which strives to uphold the virtues of being people for and with
others.
The Sports Centre Supervisor / Competitions Coordinator has responsibility for assisting the Sports
Centre Manager in the effective management and promotion of the College’s major indoor sports facility
(the Gartlan Centre) and for providing support to the teaching and learning function within the Gartlan
Centre.
The Sports Centre Supervisor / Competitions Coordinator is required to assist in the daily management,
operation and supervision of the Gartlan Centre and to ensure a consistently high level of service is
provided to internal and external users of the facility.
In addition the position is responsible for the development, promotion and coordination of weekly, male
and female six-a-side soccer competitions.

Role responsibility
The Sports Centre Supervisor / Competitions Coordinator is responsible on a day-to-day basis to the
Sports Centre Manager. The Sports Centre Supervisor / Competitions Coordinator is ultimately
responsible to the Principal.

Role accountabilities
3.1
Team leadership
When the Sports Centre Manager is not on duty, the Sports Centre Supervisor / Competitions
Coordinator will be required to exercise effective and efficient management of the Gartlan Centre and
staff.
3.2
Sports Centre Supervisor - General Duties and Responsibilities
3.2.1
Assist the Manager in the efficient management of the day-to-day operation of the Gartlan
Sports Centre.
3.2.2
Ensure that all Gartlan Sports Centre policies, procedures and operations are accurately and
efficiently processed and adhered to.
3.2.3
Provide supervision and leadership to staff. Assist in setting the standard and building morale in
order to harness the talents and energy of team members.
3.2.4
Assist in ensuring that all Gartlan Sports Centre equipment and facilities are maintained and
operated in a safe and hygienic manner. Carry out scheduled maintenance duties to maintain
these standards, for example the monitoring of the pool.
3.2.5
Work with the manager to generate a high customer service culture. Foster a culture of constant
and consistent communication with all internal and external clients of the facility, and respond
accordingly to their needs and information.
3.2.6
Exercise appropriate control over and ensure the safe and proper conduct of all individuals
using the facilities of the Gartlan Sports Centre.
3.2.7
Carry out administrative duties and other duties and special events as directed by the Sports
Centre Manager.
3.2.8
Help ensure that the Gartlan Sports Centre is appropriately staffed at all times.
3.2.9
Ensure the observance of all Occupational Health & Safety Policies and procedures by all
students, staff and external clients.
3.2.10
Work closely with the PD/H/PE Faculty to assist in readying the facilities for curriculum
requirements, e.g. getting equipment ready and set up for PD/H/PE practical classes.
3.3
Development of the Gartlan Sports Centre
3.3.1
Assist in developing a broader provision of services to the outside community including the
development of commercial links between the College and external users such as sporting
bodies/associations and members of the public.
3.3.2
Assist in implementing marketing strategies to maximise internal and external usage of the
Gartlan Sports Centre.
3.3.3
Effectively contribute to and participate in activities and initiatives to promote and enhance the
service, success and objectives of the Gartlan Sports Centre
3.4
Competitions Coordinator - General Duties and Responsibilities
3.4.1
Responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of weekly social sports
competitions.
3.4.2
Responsible for the development, co-ordination and implementation of the current weekly men
and women’s six-a-side soccer competitions.
3.4.3
Assist in the investigation, development, co-ordination and implementation of external
recreation programs including, but not limited to, weekly sports competitions such as basketball,
in-door cricket and six-a-side soccer.
3.4.4
Assist with the development, co-ordination and implementation of internal recreation programs,
for example, organised sport activities for the boarders when they visit the Gartlan.

Qualifications and skills






5.
A degree in sport & exercise or equivalent preferable.
Experience in implementing and co-ordinating weekly sports competitions.
Experience supervising sports facilities.
Experience working within a school environment preferable.
Pool Operations & Supervisor Certificate preferable.
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Work Health and Safety (WHS)
Actively support and contribute to the maintenance and development of a safe working environment.
6. Appraisal / Review conditions
The appointee to this position will be required to participate in the annual Individual Review and
Development System in consultation with the Gartlan Centre Manager.
7. Terms of employment
This is an ongoing, full time position.
Hours of work are:
October to March
Monday and Wednesday – 1.00 pm – 8.30pm
Tuesday and Thursday -- 6.30 am – 2:00pm
Friday – 9.30 am – 5.00 pm
April to September
Monday, Wednesday and Friday – 9.30 am – 5.00 pm
Tuesday and Thursday 6.30 am – 2.00 pm
