Student Challenges
Run one of the following classroom or student challenges during your PE Week to encourage students to be more
active this week!
Class Challenge
As a class, complete all of the following activities between Monday 14 November and Friday 18 November
(OR your school can choose a single day during this week to participate in the challenge) and you could win:

1.
All students bring only healthy snacks for recess with no wrappers every day
2.
All students bring a water bottle to school every day
3.
Students are reminded to take an ‘activity break’ every 30 minutes and are required to complete either
20 star jumps, 10 push ups, 20 sit ups or another form of class activity – every day!
4.
Classroom Teacher takes the class outside for an activity on at least one occasion throughout the week
– must be a minimum of 20 minutes activity time
5.
Eat lunch sitting outside in the fresh air every day (unless it’s wet)
6.
Complete one of the following activities each day (different each day):
a. Boogie Break: teacher to play one school appropriate song per day where students are encouraged
to get up and dance about
b. Play Cards: Using a standard card deck, assign an activity to each of the four suits (ex: jumping in
place, running in place, sit-ups, squats). Pass out a card to each student and they have to do the
activity for that suit for 20 seconds. Have students pass their cards to their neighbour and repeat for 5 passes.
c. Acting Out: Read a paragraph or page of a book, and every time an action verb comes up, the students have to act it out.
d. Animal Instincts: Pick one student to call out an animal and have everyone mimic how that animal
moves. Go around the room until every student has an opportunity to call out an animal and the
class has mimicked that animal.
e. Have students do the following in place for 1 minute each (feel free to mix up the order): jog in place, high knees, jumping jacks, hop on one foot, hop on the other foot, and hop on both feet.
7.
Class submits an answer to each question in the PE Quiz each day
8.
Class creates a colourful, eye catching display in their classroom on a window or door advertising PE

9.
Have the class make a list of alternatives to watching TV/using the computer and submit them to the
office/PE teacher
10. Come up with a class challenge, something fun that lots of people can be involved in, and give it to your
PE teacher. The class with the best idea will get to play!

Individual Student Challenge
Complete all of the following activities between Monday 14 November and Friday 18 November (OR your school can choose

1. Ride or Walk to school (or part of the way) on all 5 days of the week

3. Switch everyday packaged food for a piece of fruit or a vegetable all week
4. Create a poster to advertise PE Week

10. Come up with an idea for a new game, something that’s fun and will keep you active, and give it to your PE teacher
Ideas for prizes during PE week
Remember prizes don’t have to be something that costs a lot of money – or any money at all! – Think outside the box or use
some of the following options as prizes;
• Winning class gets to go outside to lunch time 10 minutes
early
• Winning class gets to choose their favourite activity in PE
• Winning class gets to play a students v teachers game
• Winning individual gets first choice of sports equipment
for lunchtime
• Winning class gets to be first to line up at the canteen
• Winning class has exclusive access to the playgroup
at recess etc.
• Winning class gets an extra PE class with PE teacher
