Info meeting on plan set Dec. 2
By ROBIN YOUNG ROE
The Bellport Board of Fire
Commissioners released a
statement this week in defense of
their plans to build a new
firehouse at the site of the old
Bohack building on Main Street.
A vote on the $735,000 proposal is
scheduled for Dec. 5.
Opposition arose last week to
the plans which call for the
construction of a new garage in
fron t of the present building .
Floors of the Bohack building are
not strong enough to support fire
fighting equipment
some
weighing as much as 16 tons,
according to district officials.
The statement reads, in part:
"The total cost of purchasing and
converting the Bohack site was
established by architect , Robert
Heins, to be $735,000. This figure

From the fire chie f
To the voters of the Bellport Fire District:
As the present fire chief of the Bellport Fire Department I
would like to point out that the Board of Fire Commissioners are
elected to their positions by the qualified voters of the fire
district. They represent you, the taxpayer. And I must say that
the Bellport Fire District Board members live up to their
respective positions.
As the chief I have to answer to them and I have to make all
requests for equipment and or/use of district property through
them, and believe me I have to justify all of my requests.
In no way is your board trying to get on a so called "band
wagon " in respect to the purchase and building on to the Bohack
property . They are looking into the present and the future for the
protection of your life and your property.
If any voter does not understand why the board is asking for
the vote on the Bohack property and adding on to the building,
then please attend the information meeting, at the Fire House on
the evening of December 2, 1974.
