Corresponding Sides
Definition of Corresponding Sides
• If the relative position of two sides is same in two figures, then they are called Corresponding Sides. • Corresponding sides are proportional in similar figures. In the figure, triangles ABC and XYZ are similar.
The relative position of AB and XY is same, so they are corresponding sides.

We can create scale drawings using ratios and proportions.
• We make them bigger or smaller by using the scale factor (ratio) and another fraction to set up a proportion that can be solved. Sound familiar???

When we do this we are creating SIMILAR FIGURES.
• Similar figures are the same shape but not necessarily the same size.
• 2 figures are similar if:
• Corresponding angles have the same measure
• The ratios of corresponding side lengths are equal
