Connect

Serve
mentor
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I
have commanded you. And remember, I am
with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20[HCSB]
Where Am I?
I am exploring what it means
to follow Christ.
I have discovered who Christ
is and have started a
relationship with Him.
I am growing in my
relationship with Christ and
others.
I am experiencing the love of
Christ by serving.
Welcome to the RRCC’s Method
Method of what you might ask?
It is our method of helping someone go from exploring what it
means to follow Christ to discovering Him, growing closer to Him
and serving Him. This is our discipleship cycle...how we connect
with explorers and help them on their spiritual journey with Christ.
On the previous page you may have noticed a schematic with the
heading “Where Am I?” Take a look at the different stages and
decipher which stage you think you are currently at. Once you
have that figured out, turn in this book to the section that starts
with that icon. You will eventually go through this entire book as it
is meant to be cyclical in nature. For instance, if you start at the
GROW stage, you will complete the GROW readings and
participation steps and then proceed on to do the same with the
SERVE readings and participation steps.
Once you have
completed them, you will be encouraged to help an explorer
complete the CONNECT and DISCOVER stages. You will be
developing a Mentor to Mentee type of relationship with the
person you are seeking to CONNECT with.
As a Mentor, you should be willing to invest time in the person
you are helping DISCOVER what it means to have a relationship
with Christ. You should plan to get together on a weekly basis to
help them understand what it is that they are reading and to guide
them through each of the different participation steps they are
asked to complete. Be sure to read the different books yourself,
in advance of getting together with them, so that you are
prepared to discuss their contents.
If you have picked up this book and have identified that you are
either at the CONNECT or DISCOVER stage, then you are going
to need a Mentor to help you through the first couple of stages.
Please ask your friend or family member who introduced you to
RRCC, or the Pastor of the church, who can help you on your
spiritual journey. It is our desire that each and every person has
the opportunity to experience a rich and wonderful relationship
with Jesus.
So...what are you waiting for? Go and grow! Enjoy your trek
towards spiritual wholeness.
Mentor to Mentee
When first connecting with people who
are about to start a spiritual journey
towards faith in Christ, we need to help
them see and understand their need for
a relationship with Christ. These are
the resources we believe will help them
discover their need and to make
positive movement towards committing
their lives to Him.
1) Ask God who He wants you to CONNECT with.
2) Invite them to church.
3) Introduce them to the following reading materials.
Provide them with what it is you are asking them to read. You
can find these resources either in the church library, at your
Christian bookstore, online at www.christianbook.com or ask a
church leader if the church has any you can use if you are unable
to obtain them from any of these providers. Make sure you have
read the material first before asking the person you are
CONNECTing with to read it and then set up a weekly time when
you can discuss what it is that they are reading.
Here are some suggestions and who they are best suited for:

The Holiness of God
by R.C. Sproul
Sproul explains, "How we understand the
person and character of God the Father
affects every aspect of our lives....God is
inescapable. There is no place we can hide
from Him. Not only does He penetrate every
aspect of our lives, but He penetrates it in his
majestic holiness. Therefore we must seek to
understand what the holy is. We dare not seek
to avoid it. There can be no worship, no spiritual growth, and no
true obedience without it. It defines our goal as Christians. God
has declared, "Be holy, because I am holy" (Lev. 11:44). To reach
that goal, we must understand what holiness is."

Too Busy Not to Pray: Slow Down to

The world is a busy and crazy place that has
not slowed down as time goes on. If anything,
the pace, intensity and number of distractions
have only increased. Brokenness and pain
seem to have increased as well, with news of
civil war, poverty, broken families and sextrafficking touching us daily. The urgent need
for prayer is clear, but busyness still keeps many of us from
finding time to pray. Two truths haven't changed: God is the same
powerful, just, holy God He's always been; and true prayer-prayer that changes us and allows us to participate in God's work
in the world--can't happen on the fly. So Bill Hybels offers us his
practical, time-tested ideas on slowing down to pray.

ourselves to spread the gospel to all nations, owning
responsibility for helping others grow in Christ, and literally caring
for the poor. He then shows how we can reclaim our faith by
obeying the words of Jesus, trusting God and focusing on
