The Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme invites applications for scholarships for postgraduate studies in

Global Alliance for Chronic diseases call for applications
The fourth call for applications under the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD), focuses
on implementation research proposals on child, adolescent and adult age onset mental
disorders1 including, but not limited to, dementia, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, alcoholand drug-use disorders, etc., in low- and middle-income countries and/or in vulnerable populations in
high-income countries. Research under GACD involves regular exchange of research findings and
information across participating projects by means of cross-project working groups and annual joint
meetings.

The University of Tokyo: School of Science (Global Science Course - GSC) Transfer Program
The Global Science Course (GSC) was designed to create a platform enhancing cross-cultural
interaction among young minds from around the world coming together to learn science at the University
of Tokyo. GSC offers a unique opportunity for international students to pursue studies at the Faculty of
Science where Japanese language proficiency is not a requirement as the whole course will be taught in
English.

Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa Grand Challenges Grant
The African Academy of Sciences - Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AASAESA), has launched its first calls for proposals for the Grand Challenges Africa Innovation Seed
Grants. The grants are open to innovators in Africa with any level of experience, working in any
discipline in colleges, universities, government laboratories, research institutions, non-governmental and
non-profit organisations. Successful projects which each receive up to US$100,000 for two years.
Target: Non-African and African investigators working in African based, domestic organizations,
including non-profit organizations, international organizations, government agencies, research and
academic institutions.

Funding of research visits, Chemnitz University of Technology
Chemnitz University of Technology offers within the project "InProTUC" ("Doing your doctorate at
Chemnitz University of Technology), scholarships for PhD-students from its international partner
universities, who are planning to conduct thesis-related research at Chemnitz University of Technology.
Young academics can spend up to three month at Chemnitz University of Technology for a research
visit.

French Embassy scholarship programme
The French Embassy of South Africa invites students who wish to continue their tertiary education at
Masters Level in France to apply for its bursary programme for the academic year September 20172018. The French Embassy bursary programme is also proposing grants for 2017 to doctoral students to
integrate into establishments in France for specified periods of time in order to participate in a
collaborative research project as part of their doctoral thesis programme.

Wuhan University of Technology Scholarships
Wuhan University of Technology is offering Stellenbosch University students two full scholarships for a
master or doctoral degree. For the scholarship, the student would enjoy free tuition, free dormitory, living
allowance per month and as well as medical insurance.

Global South Doctoral Workshop
Doctoral Workshop; PhD students (working in disciplines related to International and Development
Studies) from Stellenbosch University are encouraged to apply to the Global South Workshop jointly
organised by the Graduate Institute, Geneva and PUC Rio, which will take place in Rio in 2017.
Successful candidates will receive an invitation to the workshop and the reimbursement of airfare and
accommodation costs.

Stem Cell Research Group fellowship and bursary
The Division of Endocrinology in the Department of Medicine at Stellenbosch University is offering one
Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and one PhD Student Bursary. The Stem Cell research Group are
seeking students with a background in Physiology or other related discipline. The research focus area is
altered stem cell functionality and its relationship with impaired diabetic wound healing. Applicants will
require expertise in multi-plex bead array cytokine analysis, PCR profiler micro-arrays, qRT-PCR,
Western blotting, Confocal microscopy, Flow cytometry and/or luciferase transporter assays. Experience
in primary cell culture; patient recruitment/interviewing and/or handling of laboratory animals will be
advantages.

MOBILE +2 Project call for applications
The MOBILE+2 Project – Mobility for International Learning Experiences, aims at fostering the mutual
enrichment and a better understanding between Portugal and 22 programme and partner countries,
through the encouragement of student and academic and administrative staff mobility and the transfer of
know-how and best practices. Within the 2 years of duration of the project, 220 scholarships will be
granted to students and staff from the different programme and partner institutions.

Swiss University of Lausanne - 2017 Summer Undergraduate Research Programme
The University of Lausanne in Switzerland (UNIL), is offering a South African undergraduate in biological
and medical sciences the opportunity to spend 8-weeks in Switzerland. This 8th edition of the Summer
Undergraduate Research (SUR) Programme in the biological and medical sciences will host around
Bachelor-level 15 students from all over the world, including a couple of local students. A
full scholarship toward tuition costs, living expenses and justified travel costs will be awarded to all
selected participants.

IC-3i international PhD Program call for applications
The Curie Institute (Institut Curie) is now accepting applications for a PhD fellowship program which is
co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie
Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement. The IC-3i international PhD Program is recruiting motivated
students for 14 PhD projects, with contracts starting in October 2017.

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme
The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme, launched by the Hungarian Government is
offering scholarships for bachelor, master's, doctoral and non-degree programmes (preparatory and
specialisation courses). Both full time and part time study modes are available for bachelor, master and
doctoral studies. The programme also offers South African students fully funded scholarships per year
for three years, beginning in the 2017/18 academic year. Studies under the Hungarian Government
Scholarship for South African Students will be undertaken at recognised public universities in Hungary.

Travel Grants
The Postgraduate Office Overseas Conference Grant (OCG) is a supplementary award to attend an
international conference outside of South Africa to present a paper or poster. Preference given to fulltime registered PhD students in their 3rd year.

Swedish Institute Scholarships for South African Students
The Swedish Institute is offering opportunities to highly qualified South Africans to apply for a master's
