Metaregistrars Web-based backoffice
Logging in
To access Metaregistrar’s backoffice, point your browser to https://login.metaregistrar.com. You
will be greeted with the following login screen:
If this is not your first time using the backoffice, you might need to enter an authenticator code to
be able to properly login. This subject is also covered in this manual. See for more information
the section about Google Authenticator.
As soon as you have logged in succesfully, you will be presented with the dashboard.
Dashboard
The dashboard provides you with some general insights into your actions as a Metaregistrar
client. Here you see an overview of your wallet status, the latest transactions you performed and
some general domain statistics.
In the future, we will add more functionality or statistics to the dashboard. If you feel something
is missing or have a great idea for an added functionality, feel free to contact us and we’ll be
glad to have a look at your suggestion.
3
On the left side of the dashboard, you will find the main menu. This menu contains all options
that a registrar needs to manage his or her portfolio. Let’s have a further look at the menu items.
Account
Account: Change your password
Click on Account->Password to change your password.
You will have to enter your old password once and the new password twice. Please make sure
that both new passwords match.
Account: Authenticator
To secure your portfolio of domain names, you can enable two-factor authentication. To do this,
click on Account->Authenticator.
4
To use two-factor authentication, use one of the authenticator apps you can download for your
personal phone and scan the code in the screen. The authenticator will present you with a
6-digit code which you will have to enter in the screen shown. Then save and activate. If the
code is correct, two-factor authentication is enabled for your account.
From now on, if you logon, you need to enter the code that is shown in the app for the
Metaregistrar website.
With the settings option you can disable two-factor authentication.
5
Company:User management
The User management menu item gives access to user login management. In this part of the
interface you can manage the users that can access the Metaregistrar backoffice systems.
Adding a new user is as simple as clicking the plus sign at the bottom of the list. As soon as the
user has been added an entry for it will show up in the login user list. If you want to search for a
specific user, type (part of) the name you want to look for in the textbox and click on “search”.
The resulting list shows all present user accounts (10 per page unless you change this setting in
the lower left of the window). Click on a user and you see the possbile actions that can be
performed on this user.
6
Company: User access rights
Users can have read, write or admin access.
●
●
●
Read access: See domain names and contacts, but cannot edit anything
Write access: See domain names and contacts, and can edit
Admin access: See everything including financial info, invoices and other user profiles.
7
Financial
Financial: Invoices
This screen displays your invoices. You can select to see only the open or paid invoices. The
invoices are listed on the left (both their issuing date as well as the invoice number are used to
make up the filename) and can be downloaded or viewed. You will need a PDF-viewer to be
able to view your invoices.
If you have a lot of invoices, you’ll be able to browse through different pages using the
numbered page browser icons at the bottom of the page.
Financial: Transactions
The transactions screen shows all the transactions that are billable, that means the transactions
that will show up on your invoice. You can select transactions by month.

Domains
Domain creation: Search domains
This form allows you to search through your portfolio of domain names. Enter (part of) a domain
name and click on “Search”. If you’d like to search on something else than a domain name, use
the pulldown menu labeled “Search field”. Click on it to change the selection to “Domain name”,
“Registrant”, “ Admin contact”, “Tech contact”, “Billing contact” or “Nameservers”.
Create domain
Use the ‘create domain’ link to create a new domain name.
Domain creation: Check domain
This function will allow you to check if a domain name is still available to be registered. The
‘create domain’ button will take you to the next screen.
10
Domain creation: Create domain
To create a new domain name, you will need to fill the following fields:
1. Domain name.
2. Nameservers.
3. Registrant contact id. Create a new one or pick one that you created using the “Default
contacts” section.
4. Administrative contact id. Create a new one or pick one that you created using the
“Default contacts” section.
11
5. Technical contact id. Create a new one or pick one that you created using the “Default
contacts” section.
As soon as you’re done filling in these fields, click on the “Register” button to start the
registration process. A domain check will be performed and if the domain name(s) you’re
looking for are still free, the domain will be registered and added to your account.
The checkbox “Save this as default settings” enables you to create multiple domain names with
exactly the same parameters without having to type in all the parameters every time. When
selected, the next ‘create’ screen will have the parameters filled-in.
Domain creation: Create glue records (hosts)
When you need glue records (nameservers with the same ending as a domain name you own),
the domain name first has to be created without the nameservers.
Once the domain name is created, edit the domain name (see screen below)
In the section ‘Hosts’ you can create the nameservers (hostnames) that have the same ending
as the domain name in question.
Please also note all the edit possibilities for this domain name:
● Edit the parameters of the domain name with the ‘edit’ option
● Edit the status of the domain name (clientUpdateProhibited, clientTransferProhibited,
clientHold) with the ‘Edit status’ option
● Renew the domain name
● Retrieve the authorisation code
12
●
Delete (cancel) the domain name with the ‘Delete’ option.
13
Domain name transfers
Transfers: Incoming transfers
This screen shows the transfers that have been requested by your company. You will see all
transfers, also the ones that are performed immediately upon request.
You can select to see all completed or suspended (waiting for an answer) transfers.
Click on a domain name to see a detailed transfer status.
The screen below shows a successful transfer where the old owner and the new owner have
the same email address.
14
The next screen shows a failed transfer where the domain name changes owner (different
e-mail address) during transfer. Both owners acknowledged the transfer but the transfer failed
due to a wrong authorization code.
Transfers: Outgoing transfers
The outgoing transfers screen looks the same as the incoming transfers, but these are the
domain names you lost.
Click one one of the domain names to see the transfer details.
15
There will not be many ‘failed’ transfers in the outgoing transfer list, because most of the time
the domain names will end up in this list when the transfer was successful.
Transfers: Transfer a domain
This option will request a new transfer for a domain name. Please fill in all the parameters
before requesting the transfer.
16
Due to differences with the various registries in the world we have chosen for one uniform
transfer process, that requires you to input all the domain name details before requesting the
transfer. If the domain name owner and nameserver must remain unchanged, please make sure
that the information in the whois is copied into these fields.
17
Contacts
Contacts consist of company or personal information that is attached to a domain name. A
registrant of a domain name is a contact, but an Admin-C (administrative contact) and Tech-C
(technical contact) are also contacts within our back-end.
Contact: Search contacts
This part of the interface allows you to search through your contacts list. You can search on
almost all fields in a contact: company name, person name, address, postal code, city, country,
email address.
18
Contact: Add contact
19
The create contact screen is pretty self explanatory. The contacts created in this part of the
backoffice can be accessed in other parts.
For example, if you look at the “Default contacts” item, you will see three types of contacts
specified. As soon as you click on the “Search” button, a window will appear showing you all the
present contacts for your account. In short, the contacts listed in those screens can be added
through this part of the Metaregistrar backoffice.
20
EPP users
EPP: Users
This screen shows all the user logins to the EPP system. Per user you can create a whitelist of
IP addresses. If no IP addresses exist in the whitelist, the user will not be able to access the
EPP back-end.
Click on the user and you will be allowed to set an unlimited number of IP addresses (IPv4 and
IPv6) for this user. The Change Password option will allow you to set a new password for this
user. You can also set a new password via the EPP login.
