Minnewashta Newsletter - Minnetonka Public Schools

Minnewashta Newsletter
May & June 2017
Note from Stephanie Engen, Site Supervisor
As we approach the end of the school year, there seems to be more and more activities! Explorers is no exception!
May 1 - 5 is Turn Off Your Screen Week. The following week, we will be allowing kids who participated to bring in a
toy from home for each day they participated. We will have our Annual Family Night on Thursday May 18. Families
are invited to come participate in our Parents vs Kids Pin Defender game starting at 4 p.m. followed by fruit kabobs
outside. The last day of school, we will have a Water Fun Day (weather permitting) and students can bring their
bathing suits to change into.
Thanks for another great school year and we hope to see you in the summer or fall!
Note from Susie Gillespie, Explorers Club Manager

Important Reminders





Hours: Explorers Club opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. There is a $10 late fee per family for every
5 minutes (or portion thereof) after 6 p.m.
Absent: Remember to always call our site if your child will be absent from Explorers (riding the bus home
or with a friend, sick, after school class, etc.). If we conduct a search, there is a $10 child search fee.
Bring ID: It is our policy to ask for picture ID to any adult picking up the children. This is a safety
policy. If you have asked someone to pick up your child from Explorers Club, please let Explorers Club
staff know the name of the person and let the person know to bring in their picture ID with them. We will
not release they child unless the names match. Again, this is for the safety of your child.
Authorized Pick Up: Please let us know if there will be another person picking up your child. A picture ID
will be required for all persons authorized to pick up children.
Tennis Shoes: Children need tennis shoes to participate in gym and outside.
Where to Drop Off And Pick Up
If your child is attending before school Explorers Club,
you will drop them off in the East Gym where you will
use the iPad to sign them in.
If your child is attending afterschool Explorers Club,
you will pick your child up from the East Gym where
you will also find the iPad to sign them out.
Our Tracking System
We use a stick system for our tracking system. Each
child has a pouch with their name on it along with a
magnetic stick with their name on it. When they
check in after school they take the stick out of their
pouch and replace that with a piece of paper that
says where they are. They give the stick to the staff
member they are with so our numbers should
match how many kids we have along with the
names of the children. If they make a new choice
they need to take the stick with them and give it to
the other staff member. When you pick up you
should be able to look at the pouches and see
where your child is at that time.
Late Policy
All children must be picked up no later than 6 p.m. If an emergency delays you and you are going to be late picking
up your child, make plans for someone authorized on your Alternate Pick Up form to pick up your child on time, and
call the program staff immediately. In the event that your child is still at the program after closing and we have not
heard from you, we will take the following steps (in order):
1. Attempt to reach you at home, cell, and/or work.
2. Call the people you listed as authorized to pick up your child.
3. If you are more than 30 minutes late, the police will be
contacted for assistance.
After the third instance, childcare services may be suspended or terminated.
