Extracurricular Code of Conduct-Truancy/Drugs and Alcohol/Other Legal Offenses
TRUANCY
PLEASE NOTE: The District must abide by current state and local attendance
accountability laws. The following guidelines are ONLY for extracurricular
participation.
Unexcused Absences
The following rules and consequences apply to all Wichita Falls students during their
active involvement as a member of an extracurricular activity.
• No excessive unexcused absences (per semester for athletics)
1. 5 unexcused absences - The coach/sponsor will be notified by the appointed
administrative designee of the campus principal. The student will receive a
warning and the parent will be contacted. At that time, the coach/sponsor will
counsel the student and develop a plan to secure proper school attendance.
The student and their parent will sign a contract that will state the punishment
phase of the truancy policy.
2. 7 unexcused absences - The student and their parent will be notified that the
student will miss the next week of participation of all extracurricular
competitions, recognitions, and productions (7 calendar days).
3. 10 unexcused absences - The student and their parent will not notified that the
student will miss the next 2 weeks of participation of all extracurricular
activities (14 calendar days). At this time, the student will be referred to court.
4. 15 unexcused absences – The student and parent will be notified that the
student will miss the next 4 weeks of extracurricular activities (28 days).
5. 20 unexcused absences – The student and parent will be notified that the
student will miss the next 8 weeks of extracurricular activities (56 calendar
days).
6. 25 unexcused absences – The student and parent will be notified that the
student will be removed from all extracurricular programs for 1 calendar year.
ALCOHOL AND CLASS C DRUG RELATED OFFENSES
The following rules and consequences apply to all WFISD athletes during their
involvement as a member of an extracurricular activity.
• No consumption, possession, purchasing, distributing or alcoholic beverages
• No use, possession, purchasing, distribution of illegal drugs
• No misuse of prescription drugs
The student involved in extracurricular activities who violates the above stated rules shall
be subject to the following:
All offenses:
1. The student must report the offense to the head coach/sponsor within 3 days of the
incident. Failure to do so will result in an additional 5 days suspension from
activities.
2. Parent notified by coach/sponsor to address the consequences of the level of
offense pertaining to alcohol and illegal drugs.
3. The student must participate in a District approved student assistance program or
show proof of external counseling. The District will provide information
regarding external agencies that provide substance abuse education upon request,
although any cost associated with the external service will be the responsibility of
the student and/or parent. (To be completed within 30 days of reported offense.)

4. A District approved drug test must be submitted to at the expense of the student or
parent prior to returning to competition status. ONLY hair follicle or urine
specimens will be accepted.
5. The student must complete 20 hours of community service within 30 days of the
reported offense. (See Behavior Contract)
A list of external agencies for counseling is available on the WFISD website
under Social Services.
First offense:
• The student will be suspended from participation in all extracurricular
competitions, recognitions, and productions for a minimum of 15 days.
Second offense:
• The student will be suspended from participation in all extracurricular
competitions, recognitions, and productions for a minimum of 30 days. Removal
from the extracurricular roll sheet will be at the head coach’s discretion.
Third offense:
• The student will be suspended from participation in all extracurricular
competitions, recognitions, and productions for a minimum of one calendar year.
Removal from the extracurricular roll sheet will be at the head coach’s discretion.
OTHER ILLEGAL OFFENSES
It is the responsibility of the student to report the offense and corresponding disposition
to the administrative designee, and/or the coach/sponsor within three calendar days of the
arrest. If the arrest or disposition occurs during the year when school is not in session,
the student must report within 3 calendar days of returning to school. Failure to report as
required will result in an additional 30 day suspension.
Level 1 – Class A and B misdemeanor, with the exception of misdemeanor drug related
offenses and unlawfully carrying of a weapon/firearm (see Level 2 below).
If a student is arrested or charged with a Level 1 offense, the following will apply:
2 First offense:
1. Meet with student, parent/guardian and administrative designee to discuss proper
lawful behavior;
2. 10 day suspension from all extra-curricular competitions, recognitions, or
productions; and
3. Student will be assigned 20 hours of community service to be completed within
30 days of the offense (See Behavior Contract)
Second offense:
Same as first offense except period of suspension from activities is increased to 25 days.
Third offense:
1. Meet with student, parent/guardian and administrative designee;
2. Suspension from all extracurricular competitions, recognitions, and productions
for one calendar year.
Level 2- Misdemeanor drug related offenses, unlawfully carrying of a weapon/firearm,
state jail and 3rd degree felony offenses.
If a student is arrested or charged with a Level 2 offense, the following will apply:
First offense:
Same as Level 1 first offense but will a 30 day suspension from activities.
Second offense:
Same as first offense but carries a 45 day suspension from extracurricular
activities.
Third offense:
Suspension from all extracurricular activities or events for one calendar year.
Level 3 – Capital, 1st and 2nd degree felony offenses.
If a student is arrested or charged with a Level 3 offense, the following will apply:
1. Meeting with student, parent/guardian and administrative designee;
2. Suspension from all extracurricular involvement until a disposition is reached;
3. A student who receives a disposition of pre-trial diversion, deferred adjudication,
conviction, or adjudication will be permanently removed from all extracurricular
activities.
4. A student who receives a disposition of juvenile deferred prosecution will not be
allowed to participate in extracurricular activities during the term of deferred
prosecution.
3 If a student is found “not guilty” or if the allegations are determined to be “not true”
through the formal process of the Criminal Justice System, the student will immediately
be allowed to resume involvement in all extracurricular activities. If charges are
dismissed without a proceeding disposition of pre-trial diversion, deferred adjudication,
or juvenile deferred prosecution, the student will immediately be allowed to resume
involvement in all extracurricular activities. Offenses with a disposition of “not guilty”
or “not true” or with a dismissal, excluding dismissals with the above mentioned
preceding dispositions, will not be considered as prior offenses in determining 1st, 2nd, or
3rd offenses.
Suspensions will be carried over from one school year to the next. Suspension days will
not be credited during summer months or during holiday periods when school is not in
session. If the student’s extracurricular activity participates in competition, recognition,
and productions during summer months or holiday periods, the days of competition may
be counted towards suspension days.

agree to abide by the Extracurricular Code of Conduct, including all conduct expectations
and the consequences. I understand that by participating in extracurricular activities, I am a
representative of the school district and a role model for my fellow students, and as such, I
am held to a higher standard of behavior.
I recognize that I violated those standards by engaging in the following violation(s) of the
WFISD Extra-curricular Code of Conduct:

I understand that my continued participation in all extracurricular activities is contingent
upon my successful completion of the Behavior Contract.

* I understand that if I do not successfully complete the Behavior Contract by the specified
deadlines, I will be suspended for an additional 15 days from participating in all
extracurricular activities. During the additional 15 day suspension, I am expected to complete
the remaining requirements of the Behavior Contract. Failure to do so will result in an
additional 30 day suspension from all extracurricular activities.
