Islam began on the Arabian Peninsula in what
is now Saudi Arabia.
Muhammed was a merchant in the town of
Mecca
At age 40 (610 AD) Mohammed received
his first revelation, or message from God.
The Angel Gabriel revealed
the first verses of the
Qur'an to Muhammad
Muhammad eventually established a basic
set of guidelines for all his followers to
observe. These became known as the
"Five Pillars of Faith"
