Genesee Yacht Club Newsletter—October 2013
A Message from the
Commodore
The Stepping and un-stepping of masts is about the most dangerous thing we do
at GYC. In the past few years we have dropped far too many masts. We have
been lucky and no one has been hurt-----yet. Please take note of the rules that
we should all follow.
1. At least 4 people on your mast crew
2. One of those crew members whole job should be to merely watch for
problems.
3. STAY OUT FROM UNDER THE MAST!
4. Make sure that the mast is butt heavy so that it does not flip.
5. If you use a bowline in your tag lines, follow it with 2 half hitches for
safety.
6. Use the lifting strap as your primary lifting point. (On order now)
7. And lastly, STAY OUT FROM UNDER THE MAST! It could really ruin
your day
Come on everyone!
GYC is going
