We will be comparing and ordering as well as rounding five-digit numbers. We will also be identifying and working with number patterns. Reading: We have been reading about traditions in our first unit. This week we will continue to look at author’s purpose, main idea and details, and text structure. We have also begun our work in our small reading groups. Writing: Our focus this quarter will be on writing narratives. We will learn how to revise and edit our work, add details to our stories, as well as do a lot of writing about what we read. Grammar: We began looking at types of sentences last week and this week we will continue discussing complete sentences, and using dependent clauses correctly (a dependent clause has a subject and a predicate, but it is not a sentence. It is a fragment because it depends on the other part of the sentence for meaning – i.e. I learned about Fair Isle knitting because my grandmother knits sweaters in that style. – The underlined portion is the dependent clause. Science: Soon we will begin our Planets and Moons Science kit. Notes from the Specialists: PE In the gym we are learning the gym procedures and rules. In the first rotation of PE, teamwork is the theme. Please have your student wear appropriate SHOES and clothing during their PE time. Music In the music room we are learning about music room behavior and procedures. We are learning to respect each other and the instruments. Please have your student wear appropriate SHOES during their music time because we do play games. Art In the art room we are learning all about color and art room procedures. Please have your student wear appropriate art attire during their art time. We do our best to stay clean, but accidents do happen from time to time. Library In the library we are learning the library procedures including check out. We are also learning how to use Destiny, you can find it on Olympic View website! Also ask your student/student’s teacher (1st-5th) about our monthly book share opportunity.
