COMMENTS
13 Vernon SAR members responded to a BCAS
request for SAR assistance for a woman who fell
and broke her leg while hiking on a trail off
Westshore Road. The patient was rescued and
transferred to BCAS.
16 Ridge Meadows SAR members responded to an
RCMP request for a missing dirt biker on Blue
Mountain. Subject located in good condition.
1 Powell River SAR member responded to assist
with a missing despondent male near the Powell
River Hospital. SAR stood down due to risk to the
volunteer.
15 Penticton and 11 Oliver/Osoyoos SAR members
responded to an RCMP request to locate 2 overdue
snowmobilers last seen on the Allendale Lake
Road in Okanagan Falls. The subjects were
located alive.
15 North Shore Rescue members responded to an
RCMP request to locate and transport 4 lost hikers
near the Kennedy Lakes. The subjects were
located unharmed and assisted out of the area.
7 Kaslo SAR members responded to a SPOT
beacon activation in the Duncan Lake area near
Kaslo. SAR was stood down when the subject
advised his In-Reach device was activated in error.
25 Kamloops, Vernon, Nicola Valley and Shuswap
SAR members responded to a missing male in the
Monte Lake area. SAR was stood down after a
member of the public located the individual in good
condition.
2 PEP Air members responded to a sounding ELT
at Pitt Meadows Airport (YPK). The ELT was
located and deactivated without incident.
1 Revelstoke SAR member responded to a BCAS
request to rescue a snowmobiler with a neck injury
in a cabin on Boulder Mountain. SAR was stood
down when the subject decided to stay put and
declined medical treatment and SAR assistance.
8 Kaslo and Nelson SAR members responded to a
BCAS request following an Inreach beacon
sounding indicating a snowmobiler suffered a
broken back south of Glacier National Park. The
patient was rescued and transferred to BCAS.
5 North Shore Rescue members responded to an
RCMP request to search for 2 missing hikers on
Hollyburn Mtn. North Shore Rescue stood down
when the subjects self rescued.
10 Campbell River SAR members responded to an
RCMP request to search for a missing 11-year-old
special needs girl in Port McNeill. SAR was stood
down when RCMP located the missing child.
43 Saltspring Island and PEMO SAR members
responded to search for a despondent male, last
seen in the area of Sun Eagle Drive. RCMP stood

SAR down after search yielded negative results.
5 Golden SAR members responded to an RCMP
request to locate 2 overdue snowmobilers in the
Silent Pass area near Golden. The snowmobilers
were located in an adjacent drainage and flown out
of the area.
10 members of Kimberley SAR responded to
search for 3 missing hikers on a trail near Higgins
St in Kimberley. The subjects were found uninjured.
5 Pemberton SAR members responded to an
injured snowmobiler in the Mount Tait area. The
patient was airlifted out of the area and delivered to
the Whistler Medical Clinic suffering from a back
injury.
15 Chilliwack SAR responded to a para glider stuck
in a tree. SAR and RCMP determined the object
sighted was more likely a broken tree or snag and
RCMP stood down the search pending further
information.
4 Whistler SAR members responded to an injured
snowmobiler in the Mt Tait area. The patient was
airlifted out of the area and delivered to the
Whistler Medical Clinic suffering from a back injury.

8 Squamish SAR responded to two stranded hikers
on the sea to sky trail. Hikers transported safely to
their vehicle.
5 members of COSAR responded to assist a
pregnant female with health issues at Penask Lake

DGIR CODE 2
On 13 Mar 17, a motor vehicle incident involving several semi’s near the west gate of
Glacier Park was upgraded to Code 2 (Urgent Status) by the Ministry of Environment
Response Officer. The highway was closed after it was reported that at least one vehicle
was on fire and dangerous goods may have been on board.
On 16 Mar 17, a motor vehicle incident involving a semi, 10 km east of the the Mount
Robson Visitors Centre, was upgraded to Code 2 (Urgent Status) by the Ministry of
Environment Response Officer. The vehicle’s saddle tanks ruptured spilling approx. 800
litres of diesel to the head waters of the Fraser River.
MISCELLANEOUS
On 14 Mar 17, Juan De Fuca SAR rope team was issued a task in order to assist in the
lowering of officers down to a crime scene so that they could conduct an evidence
search in the Port Renfrew area.
On 14 Mar 17, North Vancouver ESS activated their EOC in response to assist with
evacuee’s displaced from their residence due to a gas leak.
On 16 Mar 17, Chilliwack SAR was requested to provide safety on the river while
RCMP/FLNRO personnel removed some squatters and their personal effects from an
island in the Vedder River.
FLOODING
On 13 Mar 17, a task was issued for the SEA Region for Spring Freshet preparations.
On 13 Mar 17, Hawes Creek in the Bulkley Valley Regional District froze and ice backed
right up to a couple of homes. MOTI and their contractors will be doing some work in the
stream to re-establish the creek channel.
On 15 Mar 17, the Central Kootenay Regional District provided sand for flooding at a
home in Nelson.
On 16 Mar 17, the Shuswap Emergency Program received a task number to provide
sand for a flooding home on Salmon River Road.

ENVIRONMENTAL
On 14 Mar 17, a landslide occurred in the Fraser Valley Regional District. The landslide
did not impact any roadways or access; however a nearby trailer park, home to 60
trailers, made a geotechnical engineer’s assessment required.
On 15 Mar 17, a landslide occurred in the Nelson area. The landslide did not impact any
roadways or access; a bank slid into a creek and caused a debris flow. A geotechnical
engineer’s assessment is required.
On 19 Mar 17, a landslide occurred in the Central Kootenay Regional District which
impacted Highway 6 near the New Denver hospital, the highway remains open and
Ministry of Transportation is bringing in a geotechnical engineer to assess the situation.
There is possibly a residence impacted but this has not been confirmed.
On 19 Mar 17, a landslide occurred in the Central Kootenay Regional District which
entered into Smallwood creek. Highway 3A and the CP rail tracks are in the near vicinity
of the incident.
On 19 Mar 17, a landslide occurred outside of Creston which has blocked Duck Creek
Rd. A residence was at risk and was evacuated due to safety concerns. MoTi and the
Highways Contractor have investigated and believe more slides are likely in the area
and will be re-assessing later in the week.
