General GIRLS Tartan skirt Short-sleeved official shirt Short white socks Black shoes – ‘Baby doll’ or conventional lace-up BOYS Long grey flannel trousers Long-sleeved skyblue shirt Plain navy tie with badge Blazer Grey socks a) The winter uniform may be worn during summer, with the proviso that there is full adherence to the winter uniform requirements. b) The summer shirt is not permitted to be worn with a tie c) Learners may not wear a jersey without a blazer. d) Pupils awarded the schools Honours and/or Full Colours blazer are entitled to wear the official white jersey of the school. All other learners are to wear the official blue jersey. e) If Learners wear a tie, they must wear a blazer. f) Learners may not carry their blazers at anytime, during school, after school, on the school campus or in the community. g) Pupils selected for 1 teams or the equivalent in cultural activities is entitled st to wear the official school white 1 team scarf. All other learners are entitled to wear the official school blue scarf. When pupils wear a scarf, the pupil is required to wear full winter uniform. h) Girls wearing the white summer socks may only turn the socks over once and are not permitted to roll these socks. i) No pupil is permitted to wear “secret socks” at any stage as part of the official school or sporting uniform. j) Learners who deface their uniform will have to replace the defaced article. k) No variations to the school uniform will be allowed. l) Boys must be clean shaven at all times, and may not grow beards or moustaches. m) Learners must wear the shirt tucked in at all times. n) Nails must be short. No acrylic nails will be allowed. No nail polish may be worn. o) No make-up will be allowed. st p) No suede or two-tone shoes are allowed. Only regulation shoes may be worn and these must be clean and polished. Learners are to ensure that laces are correctly tied at all times. q) No offensive graffiti on school bags is allowed. 3. Jewellery 4. a. No rings or chains – only a regulation watch (no charm bracelets, no rings containing watches, no charm bracelets containing watches). b. Only gold or silver studs may be worn by girls (no clear or coloured stones). c. No pupil shall wear lip, eye or nose rings. d. The only item from a medical perspective that is allowed to be worn is a medical alert bracelet, for health and life-threatening safety precautions. Hair No dyeing or peroxiding of hair will be allowed (boys or girls). Girls: a. Shoulder length hair must be tied up into one ponytail with a narrow plain navy ribbon (Grade’s 8 to 11) Grade 12 learners are allowed to wear a white ribbon. Councillors are permitted to wear a red ribbon. b. Hair must be clipped off the face. c. No pupil is allowed to wear buns or pigtails. d. No pupil is allowed dreadlocks or corn-rows or any other hairstyle in contravention of the uniform rules of the school. Boys: a. No step – hair must be short, neat and may not touch the collar. b. No long side-burns will be allowed. All side-burns are to be trimmed half-way up the ear. c. Shaven heads are not acceptable and will be regarded as a serious breach of discipline – a razor cut No. 3 is permitted. d. No undercut will be permitted. e. Hair is to be brushed and clean. f. No pupil is allowed dreadlocks or corn-rows or any other hairstyle in contravention of the uniform rules of the school e.g., but not limited to, fashionable gelled hairstyles. FOURWAYS HIGH: GENERAL SCHOOL RULES Learners are expected to be loyal to the school and to uphold the honour of the school. 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5 1.6 1.7 1.8 1.9 1.10 1.11 Learners must show respect towards staff members and fellow students and treat every person with dignity, without recourse to verbal or physical abuse. Learners must not in any way interfere with or damage other people’s property. Theft is a criminal offence and could lead to suspension or expulsion from school. No offensive language will be tolerated, within any area of the school campus, or in any area where the pupil can be identified as a pupil of the school. Learners are expected to be punctual and to adhere to school times. Adherence to schools times relates to punctuality at school in the mornings, punctuality in class attendance and punctuality to any times for extracurricular activities. • If Learners are late for school in the mornings, they must have a note written and signed by their parent(s) / legal guardian(s). • Learners arriving to school late in the mornings without a note will be placed on detention to be completed in the same afternoon as they day on which they arrived late at school. When Learners are in school uniform, or when they can be identified with the school, they are to act with decorum. a) Learners may not smoke on the school premises or when they can be identified with the school. Learners may not have cigarettes, cigarette lighter or matches on their person. b) No drinking of alcohol is allowed at school, or at any school function, school tour, camp, or any organised school outing or whilst the pupil is in school uniform or can be identified as a pupil of Fourways High School. Fourways High School is a drug free school. • Where a student is in possession of, distributing and/or selling illegal drugs or alcohol at school, that student will be liable for immediate suspension followed by a disciplinary hearing with a recommendation of expulsion. • In such cases the school will contact the parents and will also refer the matter to the police for further investigation. • The school will assist the police in their investigation at the school. There may be no intimate physical contact of a romantic nature between learners, e.g. kissing and hugging. Learners may not bring pornographic material to school. Learners may not leave the school premises during school hours without the permission of the Grade Tutor, Deputy Principal or Principal • In the eventuality that learners are required to leave school during the academic day, parent(s) / guardian(s) are to write a letter to the school indicating the reason for the learner having to leave school. • The learner will be required to have this letter signed by the Grade Tutor prior to leaving the campus. • Learners who become ill during the day must obtain a note from the Grade Tutor and report to the admin office, where they will be placed in the sick room until they are collected by their parents. 1.12 1.13 1.14 1.15 1.16 1.17 1.18 Learners may not be on the school premises unsupervised on weekends, during holidays, or in the evenings, without permission. Defacing of any school property or any form of vandalism will not be tolerated – learners and parents will be liable for any damage. Learners who miss cycle tests or exams must produce a doctor’s certificate or they will get nought. Truancy will be severely dealt with. Learners are to assist in keeping the buildings and grounds neat and clean. No learners are allowed in the printing room or the staff room.
