An annual tradition for the past 54 years, Woodstock’s juried exhibition gives local artists and not-so-local artists a chance to meet and share ideas. “I think it’s important for local artists to meet other artists from neighbouring communities. Creating art is mostly done in solitude so it gives them a chance to interact and discuss creative ideas,” Patricia Deadman, the curator of the Woodstock Art Gallery, said Saturday afternoon at the opening of the exhibition. The gallery received 204 submissions this year with jurors Zhe Gu of Gallery Stratford and Canadian artist, Christian Bernard Singer responsible for choosing the top 30 entries. “(It’s) really, really difficult,” Gu said after the opening. “But it’s enjoyable at the same time. The variety of work; there are lots of different exploration of ideas.” 2 of 3 05/11/13 9:57 AM Earning one of the jurors’ choice awards was Woodstock’s own Angelique Lafreniere O’Meara. She earned the recognition for her painting York Region – Veritable Extend Reality #5. “I remember it well,” Gu said. “It stood out to us. The palette choice was really interesting.
