Rev[eren]d Sir,
In answer to your Note of the 29th ult[im]o [last] requesting to be
furnished with a statement respecting the Mulberry Wood found in the House of the
late Mrs Garrick in the Adelphi, I beg to inform you that the direction of M r Carr, and
under the approval of Mr Dowdeswell and Yourself as Trustees of the Estate of the late
Mr Garrick, and of Yourself and Mr Beltz as Ex[ecut]ors of the Will of the late Mrs Garrick,
I have caused a considerable number of Boxes to be made partly of the said Mulberry
Wood, and partly of Cypress Wood from a Tree planted by M r and Mrs Garrick at
Hampton, which Boxes were intended to be disposed of as follows.
To His Majesty the king, one snuff Box made of the Mulberry wood with a Cameo of
Shakespeare inserted in the lid of the same

set in a richly chased Gold frame the inside of the Box lined with Tortoise shell
and the whole lushly polished. One other Snuff Box of the Cypress wood with a
Cameo of Garrick inserted in the lid of the same and finished to correspond with
the Box of the mulberry Wood. The Cameos by Tassie.
To the Lord Chancellor a Pair of [Mulberry wood] Snuff boxes with medallions of Shakespear
and Garrick by Pillatt and Green; set in gold frames.
To ? Alexander Esq[ui]r[e] (The Master to whom the several Causes stand referred) a Pair of
[Mulberry wood] Snuff Boxes with medallions of Shakespeare and Garrick by
Tassie.
To Mrs Patten a Work Box inlaid with mulberry Wood and cypress Wood, upon a ground of
other wood which belonged to Mrs Garrick. upon the top of the box is a Medallion of M r
Garrick set in a frame of Cypress Wood, and the whole highly polished. Also two Snuff
Boxes of the Mulberry and Cypress Woods with Medallions of Shakespeare and Garrick
inserted in the lids of the same.
To George Garrick Esq[ui]r[e] a Dressing Case and two Snuff Boxes to correspond with those
last described.

All the Snuff Boxes are completed and are now in my possession; the Dressing Cases and Work
Boxes are in a forward state and will

soon be ready for delivery. I propose to accompany the delivery with an affidavit
that the Mulberry Wood is the same as was found in the House in the Adelphi by the
Ex[ecut]ors of Mrs Garrick’s Will, sealed at each end with a head of Shakespeare and
corresponding with the pieces described in a Certificate given to M r Garrick in 1762 now
in your possession. Also with an affidavit that the cypress Wood is part of a Tree planted
at Hampton by Mr and Mrs Garrick and which died standing in the year of Mrs Garrick’s
Death. The remainder of the Mulberry Wood (not wrought) is deposited with other
effects of the late Mrs Garrick in a Room at No. 1 Queen’s Court, King Street Covent
Garden, the Key of which is I believe in your possession. I remain Rev[eren]d Sir,
