What is it like to be a student at TBS Year7

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO BE A STUDENT AT TBS……
Year 7
1. My first 5 weeks at The Beaconsfield School has been amazing and phenomenal. In
my time at The Beaconsfield School I have met lovely new people and supportive new
teachers, I have joined a Netball team and a Drama club. There are a lot of different
activities to contribute in. All the people at The Beaconsfield School have been
respectful and kind. I am looking forward to spending my years at high school with
them. My favourite lessons are Drama and English because I find them very enjoyable.
On the first day I was very nervous and scared but now I can safely say I love The
Beaconsfield School!!
2. Starting the first day of school, it may be nerve-wracking while driving along, but trust
me, it won’t be anywhere near as bad as you think it will be. I really recommend going
to Summer school but if not, the induction days will be enough. When you get to school,
friends really won’t be a problem and even finding your way around school takes no
thought at all! All you have to remember is that ‘A’ floor is at the top and ‘C’ is at the
bottom (all the doors are numbered too!).
Compared to primary school, this school is amazing! You don’t just do English, Maths
and Topic, you do so many more new, fun subjects. These include: Technology
(Textiles, Cookery and more), more Art, Drama, Science experiments, a new language,
and way more! My favourites are all of them! There are also so many clubs such as
netball, dodge ball, guitar club (any musical thing) and anything that you want to do.
3. Year 7 has been really interesting so far and has been much more fun and different
than Year 6. It was really easy to settle in and get used to everything because of all
the lovely teachers that work here. It was quite exciting to see all the new lessons that
we were going to be doing such as Accelerated Reading and Food Technology.
It is so much different to my primary school because everyone is so big and old and
there is so many more people here than my old school. In my primary school we stayed
in the same class for all subjects but now there’s a classroom for everything and it
increases the chances of getting lost.
I really enjoy Accelerated Reading because Miss Scognamiglio is a very good teacher
and is always nice to us. Also I love reading and writing which is involved in the fact
that I love Accelerated Reading. However, it’s not just Miss Scognamiglio that is a
good teacher, all teachers here are really nice and fair to all of us.
The clubs are hugely varied, there’s a Debate club and a Football club and these are
just two of the many clubs here. I have joined the Football club in the hope that I will
get in the team. It is great fun.
4. I felt nervous and excited at the same time. I was nervous because I was going to a
big school but excited because I am going into a new year. I really enjoyed all the
different kinds of lessons. I find it hard in Maths and there is a lot to do. My best lesson
Discovering the potential in all
is English and I am getting better at handwriting. I want to do Cooking club next term.
I have made loads of new friends and they help me to get around school. I look forward
to getting better at my reading and writing.
5. My first day was pretty normal. I was not excited and my primary school is about the
same but there’s one thing that is not the same, the days have different lessons. I like
PE because it is fun b because football racing is fun. I made 5 friends and they are
Luca, Daniel, Tom, Joshua and Danny. I didn’t go to the trip last Saturday and I am
looking forward to being better at English, Science, Spelling, Art, Geography,
handwriting, Drama, History, Religious Education, Spanish, Accelerated Reading, ICT,
Technology and Music. I am a fan of H2O Delirious Vanossgaming and the best thing,
MAGIC. I am very, very bad at everything and the thing that I hate most and is my
nightmare, HOMEWORK!
6. Year 7 has been amazing over the past 5 weeks. On the first couple of days I felt really
nervous but, seeing the faces of my new friends made me much happier. But after that
I didn’t know why I was nervous. Compared to primary your work standards need to
increase and there are more people in school but you will make more friends. I like
Geography, English, Maths, Science and PE because they are all interesting and
enjoyable. Teachers are fantastic and they always help you persevere in the best way
and they can be firm but fair. I have auditioned for a part in Hairspray and got Link. I
tried out for rugby and that is brilliant but now I’ve got the part of Link I can’t do football
or rugby. I’ve made new friends that I trust and find responsible.
7. On my first day at The Beaconsfield School (TBS) it was all quite weird as when we
use to be Year 6 we were the oldest and tallest of our old school but then we became
the youngest and smallest in this school.
We used to have school jumpers but now we have big blazers with 7 pockets! You are
not allowed to wear shorts in TBS unlike primary, you wear black trousers not grey,
grey school shirts with the TBS badge on and you write in black pen for everything
including maths.
I like PE and ICT because ICT is all about computers and typing which I really like
and PE because I really enjoy sport.
8. On the last day of the summer I did get really panicked and scared about things like
missing the bus and getting lost. But when I actually got to school it was great, it was
phenomenal! It was great getting ahead in line and getting let off for late homework
and going to lunch earlier for the first couple of days. The school is really easy to
learn and know your way around. Since primary I love Maths and ICT. Nothing has
seemed to have changed through the transition from primary to secondary. All of the
teachers are very nice. I’ve made a lot of new friends since the start of secondary.
Some can be really helpful and others extremely funny. Secondary is definitely so
much more fun and exciting than primary school.
9. All the teachers are really kind. Sometimes you can tell a joke with some of them and
they all try to look serious but they are all are really kind and helpful. I like basketball
but you might like football or netball or any other sport. I was happy to find out that
there is a basketball club at lunchtime but not all of the clubs are at lunchtime, there
are lots of afterschool clubs too. By week 5 I already knew my way round school and
have made lot of friends. When I look back on Induction Day and week 1, I’m so proud
that I have tried hard and worked hard.
10. Starting Secondary school? Of course it’s going to scare you (it scared me) but you
don’t have to be. The teachers and students are really, really nice. When I walked into
2
The Beaconsfield School it was massive and children were rushing around and
teachers were in their offices typing away. To be honest my heart was pounding but
my head was becoming more and more excited.
Suddenly the bell rang and me and my friend stared at our maps and headed up the
stairs. It was so crowded! After stumbling up the stairs, we made it to our Mentor room.
Miss Penberthy is my Mentor.
My favourite subjects so far are Sports, Art and English. At The Beaconsfield School,
the teachers are so kind and really understanding (so don’t worry if you forget your
homework one day!). In my first week I made so many friends and you feel like your
settling in. Another thing I would say really helps you settle in is joining a club. I joined
Netball. Netball is amazing. I love going to practise and you make more friends that
have common interests with you.
I’m still getting used to the differences between Primary school and Secondary. The
point that you were the biggest and now you are the smallest, the change of lessens
every hour and the Hub lunches. The Hub is AMAZING! Wednesday is my favourite
day as it’s roast dinner day. After two weeks I felt like I had completely settled in and
felt family like.
11. My first five weeks of coming to The Beaconsfield School has been phenomenal.
The first few days it was a bit daunting but exciting. But here is no need to worry as
everyone is very helpful. Also don’t worry about not making friends because you will
(my top tip is don’t be afraid to talk to people) make friends and you won’t be the only
one who is scared and trying to make friends as everyone is in the same position as
you.
You do have to put more effort in and try harder but if you do that you will get on just
fine. Also the teachers are very caring and understanding. On the second day you
have lessons with the old Year 7’s (so you might even have me) which gets you to
know the classes more. During the first two weeks they do make it more fun but the
normal lessons are still fun too.
If you really enjoy something there is probably a club but if it is a sport club and the
school doesn’t have it then tell the Sports Ambassadors. The clubs are all fun!
12. The last 5 weeks, overall were particularly long due to the lesson being much longer
compared to my primary. My first step in The Beaconsfield School made my hair stand
up on end. “Wow, what a crowd of teenagers standing around the school, how am I
going to survive in this bunch of people?” My fear made thoughts pop up in my head,
“Are they all going to make fun of me?”. I decided to walk in unconfidently. Some of
them stared at me, some of them didn’t. I felt embarrassed throughout that moment
but I headed to my Mentor group room, (we meet there every morning). Eventually I
knew I had choices to make so I decided to wash the cloudy dark weather out of my
head and turned them into warm and sunny thoughts and began to walk around with
confidence. My first day goes well and was cosy and friendly because of how our
teachers treated us.
13. When I first started I was scared of being late for class and getting lost. It was a bit
hard to make friends but I did make new friends. It’s harder than primary because its
bigger like ten times more I reckon. My favourite lesson is Technology because I like
the way things work. Lessons are great and better than primary because we use
Bunsen burners and microscopes in Science. Teachers aren’t that bad because in
primary when I was stuck they said to me “What do you mean you don’t get it?” Here
3
they explain it to you better. I’m looking forward to being a 6th Former and now we have
been here five weeks in all, it is better now.
14. My whole body was shaking with nerves, not necessarily scared nerves but exited
nerves. I didn’t know anyone at the time so I had no one to talk to but I quickly made
friends. On the first day of Year 7 Mr Fletcher said ‘welcome’, a sigh of relief rushed
outside of my body. I knew I would have a great time.
The first couple of days were really fun (like all the others) and we had all my favourite
lessons! The Beaconsfield School has given me so many opportunities, including
netball and I am now part of the team and also in Hairspray, The Musical, playing one
of the nicest kids in town!
I am really looking forward to playing a match with another team in netball and also
performing Hairspray. Also I am on the Charities committee and for that job we need
to raise lots of money for lots of charities.
Overall I have love The Beaconsfield School. It’s a really welcoming school and gives
so many opportunities.
15. My first day. I’m so excited to go to The Beaconsfield School where there are so many
more people than I expected. At primary school there is only about a third of what there
is here and I can’t find anyone I know. Then I realise everyone is in the hall. Mr Fletcher
gives a speech then says his favourite quote by Michael Angels.
My favourite lessons are PE because there is a whole range of stuff to do, ICT because
it’s internet based and also it covers how to be safe and Geography because my
favourite teacher, Mr Fletcher teaches me.
Extra-Curricular club wise is great. It ranges from Rugby to Stunt club. At the moment
I’ve joined rugby, football and cooking clubs. I played for the Year 8 football team and
won with me scoring and I have ambitions to become a Sports Leader when I’m older.
16. The Beaconsfield School is amazing! From the Induction days to now, 5 weeks in. I’ve
loved every second, but at first, I admit, it was hard. Trying to fit in with the ‘big kids’,
finding our way around, making new friends. Everything is different now. It’s like we’ve
taken on a full responsibility, which is good for us because we are being treated like
adults as well.
After 2 weeks you settle in quite well, finding your classes and getting used to the rush
hour when going downstairs. The Beaconsfield School is a huge school compared to
my primary school. The Beaconsfield School has more clubs, more classes and
different experiences.
There are many lessons and they are both interesting and full. All of the teachers are
lovely and respectful in everything you do and will help you achieve your goals. There
are many new lessons, Wood Tech, Graphics, Textiles, Food Tech and Photography.
It’s all very interesting.
There are many clubs for all Years, girls and boys. I’ve joined the Netball Club. There
are teams which do competitions regularly and there are 100’s more too.
I’ve made many new friends from all areas of Bucks and they have all come here, like
me, looking for new experiences.
