A Pulmonary Function Product of Rare Distinction
SpiroAir is the culmination of manufacturing and pulmonary function expertise that really has no equal. The vast experience behind the design
of this remarkable instrument should not be taken for granted. The stable of engineers and clinical experts behind this design can show a
history of superb clinical achievements. Each facet of scientific measurement has been scrutinized to ensure adherence to verifiable standards.
SpiroAir is an instrument that respects and utilizes the science behind each measurement. SpiroAir features:
• Gold standard volume measurement – 12 liter rolling seal spirometer
• Automatic self-centering spirometer
• Helium dilution lung volumes with automatic filling and O2 compensation
• Proven pressureless DLCO circuit (no demand valves employed)
• Precise gas analysis and gas conditioning
• Respiratory pressure measurement (MIP/MEP)
• Fully pneumatic patient valve (no balloon valves employed)
The 12 liter rolling-seal spirometer is the standard by which all other volume measurement devices
are compared. There is no doubt that in pulmonary measurement, all flow-based devices have their
boundaries of accuracy; a problem not limiting the SpiroAir! The horizontally mounted spirometer
has superb digital discrimination and has the lowest resistance of any competitive device.
SpiroAir has a small footprint and can be
comfortably set on a bench or supplied
with a durable mobile cart.
Test Capability
Single Breath Diffusion
SpiroAir has been scientifically designed to be
an instrument of impeccable accuracy and
clinical background. This is an affordable high
quality research caliber system that is truly
capable of respiratory measurement in cases of
severe disease.
SpiroAir has been designed to assure reproducible DLCO results without any “computer
enhancing” or manipulation of component
variables (i.e. volume, time or gas analysis).
The patient breathes from a gas reservoir at
atmospheric pressure thus avoiding problematic
interference of a demand valve. The sample
circuit and collection bag are automatically
tested for any leaks prior to each test. Gas
sampling and test performance are reviewed to
confirm clinical validity of each effort.
SpiroAir tests Simple Spirometry, Flow Volume
Loops, MVV, Lung Volumes by either helium
dilution (FRC) or nitrogen recovery (TLC), Single
Breath Diffusion, Membrane Diffusion and
Capillary Blood Volume, Respiratory Pressures
(MIP and MEP), Bronchial Challenge Testing
(Methocholine, Exercise or Cold Air), Manual
Entry for ABG’s, Exercise and much more.
Ergonomic Patient Valve
The valve support arm is easily adjusted
to suit optimum sitting heights.
The SpiroAir pneumatic valve has been designed
for long life and minimum preventative service.
The valve cleverly caters to the requirements of
all available tests affording a single patient
connection yet maintaining a minimal deadspace. There is no need to frequently change
unreliable balloon valves with SpiroAir! Utilizing
a direct piston drive, the valve is suitable for
thousands of quiet trouble free operations.
For helium dilution studies, an incorporated
pneumotach allows for automatic “switch-in” at
end-tidal expiration.
Although the valve is usually isolated by a
bacterial/viral filter, disassembly for cleaning is
a breeze!
Respiratory Pressures
The SpiroAir spirometer is easily opened
to provide access for cleaning.
Maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressures
can be measured while seated at the patient
valve. ComPAS® provides for measurement and
storage of MIP and MEP when performed at FRC
as well as the traditional TLC and RV condition.
Measurements of DLCO on SpiroAir adhere to the
standards on which predicted equations are
based. Both the DLCO and VA (Alveolar Volume)
data are highly reproducible and can be relied
on for clinical interpretation. ComPAS® software
also provides correction of DLCO and DL/VA for
lung volume.
Helium Dilution Lung Volumes
Helium dilution testing has been optimized in
this remarkable new design. The 12 liter
spirometer not only self-centers for routine
spirometry and flow volume studies but also
automatically fills, empties and flushes in a
very short period during closed-circuit mode.
The background mixture for helium dilution
testing is automatically mixed by connection to
cylinders of 100% He and 100% O2. Utilizing
the two cylinders of 100% mixture saves
considerable cost in test gas.
While the whisper-quiet turbines direct air
around the closed-circuit, carbon dioxide is
scrubbed by a chemical absorber. Oxygen
balance is maintained by both fast response
oxygen analysis and absolute volume baseline
monitoring thus ensuring calm comfort for
patients of all size and condition.
SpiroAir Fully Digital Positive Displacement PFT System
The combination of SpiroAir and ComPAS provides a
PFT testing system that operates from known,
proven techniques and standards.
Each flow volume maneuver is assessed for ATS acceptability. Using check-marks, the technician is immediately
informed of reproducibility.
Helium dilution testing has never been easier. ComPAS®
takes care of the test setup and control of oxygen consumption so that your full attention can be on the patient.
Single breath diffusion testing is carefully monitored by the
software at each stage to ensure reliable, reproducible and
meaningful results.
Bronchial challenge is deftly integrated into the spirometry
module. Challenge protocols can be configured to suit any
test requirements.
ComPAS® provides a user-configurable pre-test questionnaire that can be part of any pulmonary report.
A highly informative Help Manual is provided with ComPAS®
for instructional assistance, background physiology and
service guidance.
Simply the most accurate Spirometry available!
The 12 liter rolling seal spirometer follows in the tradition of
the world renowned standards created by Philip Morgan in the
1960’s. Low friction technology and insightful mechanical
construction have combined to provide a system with superior
high frequency characteristics and very low resistance. Top
quality pneumotachograph heads present a resistance of
typically 10mm water for 10 liters/second. At 10 liters per
second ‘SpiroAir’ has a resistance of less than 5mm of water
back pressure. Measurements of spirometry are too frequently
underestimated due to flow sensor limitations. There are no
flow limits in either the SpiroAir rolling seal spirometer or
ComPAS® software. In clinical measurement there simply is no
equal! For further details please ask for our report showing
comparison to the ATS 24 Loop standards.
For customers wanting to bypass the patient valve and breathe
directly on the spirometer, an accessory kit is provided.
If you own the finest pulmonary system available, why not utilize the
best in data management and network connected interpretation?
The Task Manager delivers completed test
results from the PFT lab to any networkconnected workstation.
The ComPAS® Task Manger
was created around the
needs and requirements of
one of America’s most
prestigious teaching
hospitals. The versatility of
the design makes the Task
Manager equally suitable in
high volume teaching
centers or smaller pulmonary practices.
When tests are completed
in the pulmonary lab,
results can be routed to any
network-connected station for physician interpretation. In cases where
multiple physicians will interpret results, the Task Manger automatically
sends the appropriate patient results to each physician.
Internal “Task Notes” can be attached to patient results and sent to
colleagues. Tests can be routed to pulmonary fellows for preliminary review
and then on to faculty staff for final interpretation. If reports need to be
printed and sent to referring physicians, completed tests along with the
interpretation can be forwarded to the department secretary for printing.
In smaller centers, test results can be sent from the pulmonary lab directly
to the attending physician. At his or her desk, the interpreting physician
can log into the Task Manager and review a variety of customizable report
formats and engage a personal template of interpretation text. The
computer impression is available for referral as the interpretation is being
considered.
ComPAS® has a multitude of beautifully organized and graphical report
formats. At Morgan Scientific, we pride ourselves in after sales customer
support. The ComPAS® license gives you access to experts in pulmonary
measurement and report design. We will be pleased to customize a report
around your particular preferences.
The Task Manager simply requires connectivity to the SQL database server.
Further data distribution to hospital-wide information systems usually
requires a specialized interface. Please contact us for further details.
For larger facilities, ComPAS® can be interfaced to the hospital-wide information system for purposes of data aggregration and billing.
