Creating a safer, standardized vocabulary for equipment operators
SI is the acronym for Système international d’unités, the metric system of measurement that has been
adopted worldwide. To ensure proper use and presentation, observe the following guidelines:
• Never place a period after an SI symbol, unless it is at the end of a sentence.
• A numeric value must always precede the SI symbol, and there must be a space between
the digit(s) and the symbol.
• Always present an SI symbol in its singular form. Never add an ‘s’ to the symbol to denote pluralization.
