originally embraced the states of Nevada, Oregon, Washington,
Idaho and Arizona. All but Nevada eventually established their
own Department. The Department was originally called
"Department of California." It was changed to "Department of
California & Nevada" on 1 May 1894.

Consolidated with Sumner Post No. 3
23 Jan. 1953 Said to have been the last active GAR Post in the country. It
continued to do business after the last National Encampment. The
members of the Post were still meeting in 1950, assisted by the
Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. The Post came to an
end with the death of its last member, William Allen Magee, on 23
Jan. 1953. An official closing ceremony at Patriotic Hall was held
on 13 Feb. 1953.
