6.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait and South Sea lslander communities that
assists them to make informed decisions about their future.
7.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
7.1. Provide information and a range of support services to Aborigínal and/or Torres Strait and/or South
Sea lslander communities in the Redcliffe area such as assistance with parenting, community
playgroups and family support for children and families within flexible hours including home visits.
7.2. Positively represent the activities of UnitingCare Community and proactively promote the Communities
for Children program within the community.
7.3. Collaborate with major stakeholders, including schools and other community agencies to enhance
access to services including specialist services by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait and/or South Sea
lslander families as required.
7.4. Engage with a broad range of stakeholders including elders, the Community Centre, service providers
and government departments to improve services to facilitate positive outcomes for clients as unmet
needs emerge.
7.5. Contribute to team-based decision making by liaising with the supervisor and other team members,
contributing to the development of program procedures and work practices; and contributing to case
planning meetings.
7.6. Maintain accurate and appropriate client records, and write reports and other correspondence as
required.

7.7. Work within the policies and procedures of UnitingCare Community and the provisions of the
Workplace Health and Safety and other relevant Legislation, including support for injured workers and
full participation in return to work plans.
8. ACCOUNTABILITY:
This position is accountable to the Team Leader
9.
SELECTION GRITERIA:
9.1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant human services field and demonstrated skills and experience
working with children and families in the community, including the identified target groups.
9.2. Sound cultural knowledge, general knowledge of community services and an advanced understanding
of historical practices, family systems, child development and attachment theories.
9.3. Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to
promote services and activities effectively in the community.
9.4. Demonstrated ability to connect clients with resources, to work co-operatively within a team; and to
work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
9.5. Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain client documentation and proficiency in the use of
computer systems and software, including data bases.
9.6. Ability to work within the beliefs, mission, values and policies of UnitingCare Community and adhere
to the provisions of the Workplace Health and Safety and other relevant Legislation as they apply to
the region's services.
