Personality Style Summary

Personality Style Summary
Ag 1 Source uses a basic quadrant chart to describe candidates. A scoring system is used to determine the
Power / Pace of the person on one axis and the Emotional element on the other. This system is unique and
proprietary to Ag 1 Source.

General Characteristics
•
Analytical styles are generally detail oriented, focused on the
facts, and prefer to be exacting and accurate.
•
Drivers are strategy and task oriented, usually quite organized,
assertive, and are found most often in leadership roles. Time is
a critical element for Drivers, usually committed to deadlines.
•
Influencers are creative thinkers, idea oriented, and persuasive.
They are usually quite social and comfortable around other
people.
•
People who are Amiable are often empathetic, social, like to
belong to groups, and are quite accommodating.
In general, it is best to pair clients and candidates together that are not in identical quadrants
and yet not totally opposite as well. The best fits are for supervisor to employee styles that
are side by side on the chart. Trying to match two Drivers together can, for example, cause
heated competition, but pairing an Influencer with a Driver in most cases works quite well.
Co-workers that are side by side on the chart generally complement each other. Co-workers
that are identical tend to always do the same thing or sell to the same people and there are
whole other groups out there that are not being reached.
For example:
 Influencers and Analyzers generally work well for Drivers
 A Driver style may have problems getting an Amiable to keep pace with the rest of the
group
 Amiable and Driver styles could work well for an Influencer, however an Analytical may
be too detail oriented to be comfortable working for that same Influencer
What styles most often experience “personality clashes?”

Conflicting Style…
Influencer
• Analytical styles are often put off by the dramatic and seemingly
attention seeking style of the Influencers.
Amiable
• Drivers are often frustrated with this relaxed and seemingly lazy
style. It interferes with their need to achieve.
Analytical
• Influencers find Analytical people to be dull and boring. An
Analyzer’s need for safety and security is not something
Influencers readily understand.
Driver
• People who are Amiable are often put-off by a Driver’s hard line
approach. They can view Drivers to be harsh and overbearing.
The real purpose of style identification is not to be concerned about needing exact matches
on the style, but to be in the approximate quadrant so that the candidate can be matched to
the right position and in order to avoid clashes if possible. There will always be some
variability in what will fit for most jobs, and we would also likely all agree that there is also a
style that will certainly not work for some jobs.
Whenever a decision is needed in deciding what style should be placed into a job, one of the
easy ways to think through this is to decide what style will not work and then go to the
opposite side of the quadrant. In other words, do we want someone that is very spontaneous
in a real detail oriented job? It may work for a while, but the question really is will that match
fit the needs of the job?
