Oktoberfest Northwest Prosts to another Successful Year of Brats, Beer & a Record Family Day!
More than 22,000 people visited Washington’s largest Munich-style Festhalle at the 2016
Oktoberfest Northwest, October 7-9. The 3-day German inspired festival at the Washington
State Fair Events Center in Puyallup celebrated its 12th year with even more beer, brats and
non-stop authentic entertainment.
Oktoberfest Northwest had record attendance for “Family day” on Sunday with half-price
admission of $6 all day, courtesy of The News Tribune. The entire weekend was full of activities
for the whole family including a packed Root Bier Garden with Crater Lake Root Beer Floats,
scavenger hunt, face painting, kids’ Hammerschlagen® and free pumpkin decorating.
The Stein Dash 5K and Wiener Dog Races, also on Sunday, both grew even bigger this year! The
Stein Dash, produced by Fizz Events and sponsored by MOViN 92.5, had over 2,000 runners
grab a stein in the fun run. The overall winner was Elva Houk with a time of 16:24 (that includes
stopping by all 3 beer stops)! Dozens of pups showed up for the Wiener Dog Races, sponsored
by 94.1 KMPS. The races and costume contests were produced by Northwest Wiener Races. Kat
from 94.1 KMPS kept the crowd laughing and having fun as she emceed the Running of the
Wieners. In the end, a pup named Miss Molly won 1st place in the races!
Oktoberfest Northwest hosted 10 restaurants and vendors, including return-favorite, Bruno’s
European Restaurant and new vendor, La Waffletz & Macaron Station. The Munich-inspired
Festhalle Biergarten poured a variety of popular German beers, including Paulaner and
Warsteiner Oktoberfest, and Schilling Hard Cider from Washington, which could be served up in
authentic steins. House Wine had a selection available for those wine lovers. The new VIP
Dinner & Experience, sponsored by Seattle Refined, was a success on Saturday night and gave
guests a 3 course catered meal and an exclusive bar area within the festival.
Host and headliner the “Queen of Oktoberfest” Manuela Horn, wowed the crowd once again
on Friday and Saturday nights with her singing, variety show which included a new lineup of
songs. She also performed two Kinderfest shows today and hosted a root beer drinking family
contest! Manuela wasn’t the only one bringing the polka. Authentic entertainment like the Z
Musikmakers and The S-bahn Band took over the Festhalle Main Stage sponsored by Xfinity and
the Outdoor Biergarten Stage, sponsored by 96.5 JACK FM, throughout the weekend.
The Hammerschlagen® Tournament of Champions, sponsored by Muckleshoot Casino and
Sports Radio KJR, was held on Friday and Saturday night. A new winner was crowned at this
year’s championship emceed by KJR’s Dick Fain, as the “Godfather of Hammerschlagen® was
finally taken down.
The Sports Haus sponsored by 102.5 KZOK was packed all weekend with sports fans enjoying
big screen TV’s and German beers. Plus, guests lined up to see Seahawks legend Sidney Rice on
Saturday, Oct. 8th at the American Express booth & Fan Van, which also included Seahawks
promotions and giveaways!
