Grammar – Unit 2 Week 3 Review A singular noun names a person, place, idea, or thing. A plural noun names more than one person, place, idea, or thing. The Rules Most plural nouns are formed by adding –s or –es. These nouns are called collective nouns. You consider the collective noun singular when you talk about the group as a whole and plural when you talk about the individual members of the group. You consider the collective noun singular when you talk about the group as a whole and plural when you talk about the individual members of the group. The team wants our support. Appositive or appositive phrases that are not essential to the meaning of a sentence should be set off by commas. mmar Practice An appositive is a noun or pronoun that is placed next to another noun or pronoun to identify or give additional information about it. Appositives are helpful for combining sentences. Commas set off many appositives. Add Information The children visited Helena, the capital of Montana. Combine Sentences Original: Your hero was also a very shrewd politician. Abe Lincoln is your hero. Analysis: The text is repetitive. The sentences can be combined using an appositive.
