What a difference extracting in a new
area can do for the type of material being sought after. At the Georgian Bluffs
quarry we stripped a new area last fall
in phase 2 to start to work in this year.
We new the material would be good as
we worked up to that area last year but
couldn't imagine it would have been as
consistent for production of thicker material for random flag, oversize flag, and
blocks for producing natural bed square
cut. The material coming out has
mainly been in the over 1 inch thickness
range. Only a couple of loads of thinner
flag has been produced this season thus
far. Previous years , the situation has
been the reversal as we produced more
thinner than 1 inch and less thicker. We
have produced more 2-3 inch oversize
and large slabs this year than we did all
of last year. This section stripped off
will put us well into 2017 before we will
have to strip another area. The natural
bed square cut being cut from the
blocks has been amazing. So far this
year, the number of 1 to 1.5 inch bins
has been crazy and we have produced
more 1.5 to 2 inch bins than we did all

The Month Ahead
The Mar quarry will be extracting armourstone in
heights if 9-10 and 14 –16 inches thick. We are
currently extracting from a new section at the
higher elevations giving us all of our thinner beds for
oversize and slabs. Oversize 1-2 and 2-3 inches
thick will be produced. Slabs 4 and 5 inches will be
made available as well. There will be some black
marble steps and slabs available. The Wiarton
quarry will be cutting coping, pavers and natural
bed sq cut. The guillotine will be spliotting mixed
rise basal buildingstone and natural bed wallstone
in heights from 4 to 8 inches thick. The Lindsay
quarry will be producing 6 inch and 2.25 inch slabs
and oversize from the wire saw. The gantry saws
will be cutting paver and nominal height buildingstone along with some garden steps natural top and
sawn. The small saws will be cutiing natural bed sq
cut from 0.5 to 3 inches thick. The guillotine will be
splitting natural bed buildingstone and wallstone for
the most part. Some sawn products will be ran
through. Natural bed garden steps, oversize and
large slabs are limited due to the elevation we are
extracting from. The Georgian Bluffs quarry has
been in an incredible run of thicker material. The
new section in phase 2 of the quarry has produced
the best material for smoothness and thickness in
years. Random and oversize flag will be produced.
