Botanic Garden Outside My Window designed by Kathryn Wilson Tucker Finished quilt: 401⁄2" x 511⁄2" Fabric Requirements 2/3 yard (one panel) Nature-C2759 Garden 3/4 yard Fleur-C4794 Bark (includes binding) 2/3 yard Nature-C2763 Sky 1/3 yard Nature-C2764 Pink 2/3 yard Nature-C2761 Green 22⁄3 yards Nature- C2761 Green (backing) 48" x 59" batting Cutting From Nature-C2759 Garden: • Fussy-cut six 101⁄2" squares. Plan which portions of the panel you want to showcase and note the tree trunk alignment in the top and middle squares. From Fleur C4792 Bark: • Cut seven 11⁄2" x width-of-fabric (WOF) strips. ~ Sub-cut three strips into two 11⁄2" x 211⁄2" strips and three 11⁄2" x 101⁄2" sashing strips. ~ Sub-cut the four remaining WOF strips into two 11⁄2" x 321⁄2" strips and two 11⁄2" x 231⁄2" Border 1 border strips. • Cut five 21⁄2" x WOF strips for binding. From Nature-C2763 Sky: • Cut four 41⁄2" x WOF strips. Sub-cut two 41⁄2" x 341⁄2" strips and two 41⁄2" x 311⁄2" Border 2 strips. From Nature-C2764 Pink: • Cut four 2" x WOF strips for Border 3. ~ Sub-cut two 2" x 341⁄2" strips. ~ Using a diagonal seam, sew one of the remaining strip scraps to the end of each remaining WOF strip. From each pieced strip sub-cut one 2" x 421⁄2" strip. From Nature-C2761 Green: • Cut five 31⁄2" x WOF strips for Border 4. ~ Sub-cut two 31⁄2" x 401⁄2" strips. ~ Sew the three remaining WOF strips end to end using diagonal seams. Sub-cut two 31⁄2" x 451⁄2" strips. Quilt Top Assembly Note: Press all seams toward the borders and sashing. 1. Lay out the six 101⁄2" C2759 Garden squares, three 11⁄2" x 101⁄2" strips and two 11⁄2" x 211⁄2" C4792 Bark strips as shown. (figure 1) 2. Sew the top row of two 101⁄2" C2759 Garden squares and one 11⁄2" x 101⁄2" C4794 Bark sashing strip together. Repeat with the remaining two rows. 3. Sew the three Step 2 units and two 11⁄2" x 211⁄2" C4794 Bark sashing strips together, fig. 1 keeping the blocks in sequence for the scene. 4. Referring to the Quilt Assembly Diagram and working from the center out, sew each border sequentially to the quilt center. For Border 1, sew one 11⁄2" x 321⁄2" C4794 Bark strip to each side of the quilt center, then sew one 11⁄2" x 231⁄2" C4794 Bark strip to the top and one to the bottom of the quilt center. 5. For Border 2, sew one 41⁄2" x 341⁄2" C2763 Sky strip to each side of the quilt center, then sew one 41⁄2" x 311⁄2" C2763 Sky strip to the top and one to the bottom of the quilt center 6. For Border 3, sew one 2" x 421⁄2" C2764 Pink strip to each side of the quilt center, then sew one 2" x 341⁄2" C2764 Pink strip to the top and one to the bottom of the quilt center. 7. For Border 4, sew one 31⁄2" x 451⁄2" C2761 Green strip to each side of the quilt center, then sew one 31⁄2" x 401⁄2" C2761 Green strip to the top and one to the bottom of the quilt center. Finishing 8. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing and quilt as desired. 9. Stitch the binding strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Fold and press the resulting long strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. Stitch to the quilt front, matching raw edges and mitering the corners. 10.
