Hola Kc parents,
I am impressed with your children – how
quickly they are picking up words like lápiz (pencil),
agua (water), and afuera (outside)! Thank you,
parents, for encouraging your child to learn Spanish!
In math this week, we continued counting
groups of 3, 4 and 5. We also practiced writing these
numbers correctly, saying that Señor Cinco (Mr. Five)
has a sombrero (hat) that goes on last (the top line is
drawn last on the number five).
In language arts, we began to work with
vocabulary from our story No te comas a la maestra (Don’t Eat the Teacher). We had fun
reading about Sammy the tiburón (shark) and how many things he ate at school. Ask
your child if he or she remembers what happens in the story! Also in language arts, your
child sorted a set of sustantivos (nouns) into lugares (places) and personas (people).
In science, we continued to explore the five senses, comparing objects based on
their size, color and shape. We also did a few journal entries in our science diaries about
which senses we use when comparing objects in this way. Ask your child if he or she can
remember any of the cinco sentidos (five senses): ver (see), oír (hear), tocar (touch),
probar (taste) y oler (smell).
Your child had Bible class with Maestra Demestri and continued putting together
a book to record the seven days of God creating our world. On Friday of this week, we
had our first Spanish chapel of the year. The third graders shared with us the Lord’s Prayer
and we sang Es un buen día para alabar a Dios (It’s a Great Day to Praise the Lord).
We have a fun-filled and exciting week ahead of us. Please encourage your child
to get plenty of rest in preparation for what’s coming up:
Language Arts
Our two linguistic focuses for the week are:
- A noun names a person, place, thing or idea.
- The letter of the week is A a.
Encourage your child to identify nouns around the
house. Also, see if your child can spell his or her
name and point out the vowels as well as write
the letter A a.
Vocabulary Words
-se zambulló (dove, past tense of dive)
-el torbellino (the whirlwind)
-el bacalao (the cod)
-el pincel (the paintbrush)
-avergonzado (embarrassed)
Math
This week we will be showing how to make the
number 5 out of groups of objects. We will also
identify what the number zero means. Please take
time to practice writing numbers at home.
Field Trip
Wednesday, September 16th, the entire
kindergarten class is taking a trip to Camp
Creation. We will leave around 11:45 am
and return around 3:15 pm. Does anyone
(parent or grandparent) have any interest in
helping us that afternoon? What we usually
do is have one parent drive the other
parents there and back. During our time at
Camp Creation, you would help watch over
a small group of our kiddos as we move
from station to station. Our trip consists of a
nature hike, story telling and more!
Chapel
All-school chapel takes place this
coming Wednesday, September
16th. You are welcome to join us at
8:30 in the gym for a time of
worship and celebration of God’s
promises from his Word.
I am praying for your child and your family this year.
Feel free to let me know of any prayer requests you might have.
Line leader (Líder de fila)
This child’s job is to lead the class. This
week’s line leader is Peter Bierma.
Alumno estrella
Our alumno estrella gets to fill out a form,
add photos and bring three objects to
share this coming Firday. This week our
alumno estrella is Parker DeNooy.
Caboose (Líder de atrás)
This child’s job is to stay at the end of the line.
This week’s caboose is Addison De Jong.
Writing our names
We are working hard at writing our names on our papers. In
kindergarten, students are expected to be able to write a capital
first letter and all other letter in lowercase. Please practice this with
your child at home, as we still have several students who struggle
with this. Also, encourage your child to use the proper handgrip on
his or her pencil. If you’d like to have a “grippy” to use at home for
practice, let me know and I’ll send one home with your child!
Blessings,
Maestra Stephanie
