Weekly Themes
July 7th - 11th
United We Stand-Around the Country in 5 Days –
Travel around these United States and explore
various sections of the country in new and exciting
ways. Learn about New England nature, Southern
arts, Native American tribes, Southwestern foods,
Yukon gold and end the week seeing just how low
you can go in our limbo contest!
July 14th - 18th
Club Hollywood – Club Hollywood takes you
through the inspired hills with an exploration of
game shows, reality television, movies, comedy and
more. Do you have what it takes to be the star of
your own show? Exhibit your talents at Granite
Start’s evening Talent Show for friends and Family.
Aug 4th - 8th
Summer Olympics – The summer Olympics are
still two years away but that’s no reason not to
run, jump, bowl, or climb your way to greatness.
Learn how the Olympics started and where the
modern Olympics came from. Practice running,
jumping, soccer, kickball, mini water polo, a laser
obstacle course and more. Finish off the week with
an awards ceremony to remember.
Aug 11th - 15th
Mystery Week “Who is the Great Bathroom
Vandal?” – In every child there is a detective just
aching to come out because everyone loves a great
mystery and this week we are learning how to solve
a doozy! Spend time solving puzzles and searching
for treasure in a race to the finish line, and then use
your noggin to decode even more mysterious
calamities. See firsthand how a police station works
and by the end of the week be able to decipher who
is the Great Bathroom Vandal.
July 21st - 25th
Music Makes the World Go Around – Experience
music like never before listening to everything from
Suite 1 for Solo Cello in G Major to Lourde’s
Royals; through Kenny Rogers to Elton John and
Tim Rice’s Aida explore how music effects the body
and mind. Learn how to create your own rhythm and
rhymes as well as move and groove to the beat of
your own tone deaf drummer.
July 28th - Aug 1st
Fun in the Great Outdoors – Purple carrots, green
and white tomatoes, do such plants exist? Learn
about what and how to make a garden grow as well
as explore the area around us identifying various
plants, fish and animals. Educate yourself on how
your actions impact the environment around you and
finish off the week “camping” out Granite Start style
as we have fun in the great outdoors.

Ocean Commotion – “The sea, once it casts its spell,
holds one in its net of wonder forever.” – Jacques
Yves Cousteau. From discovering the creatures of
the deep through learning what makes a pirate say
“Arrr” this week promises to be filled with
excitement, wonder, and exploration. Learn about
the oceans of the world and the creatures that live
there. Create your own pirate code and take yourself
back in time to sail beyond the seven seas.
Aug 25th - 29th
Faerie Tales Around the World - What defines a
faerie tale and why are they still popular with both
children and adults today? Where did they come
from and how is our changing society redefining
how we experience these classic tales? Listen to
several faerie tale favorites and then rewrite your
own favorite classic. Share your creation at the
conclusion of the week for your friends in your own
puppet theatre.
