Welcome back to the new term! I hope you have all had a good break and enjoyed your time
away from the school routines. It has been a busy first week back and it has been great
seeing all the children settle back in to school life. This week I have spent two days meeting
teachers in our Pupil Progress Meetings. This has been a great opportunity to see how the
children have been getting on in class and learning about the progress they have been
making since starting a new school or year group.

Have you seen the transformation which has taken place in the Key Stage 2 lobby area? I
hope you will agree that it is a great improvement. Katy Hancock has done a fantastic job in
sourcing free materials and gathering a merry band of painters to help get the project
completed. I’d like to say a huge thank you to the following who gave up their free time to
improve our school: Stuart Harris & Susie Kay volunteers from Homebase who wanted to
come back after doing early years play areas, Amy Williams, Ailie Steel, Tori Nye, Jackie
Ainsworth, Laura Barker, Issy Wyber, Emma Puzey, Kate Warner, Hannah Lees, Rachel Blake,
Jo Rowntree, Harriet & Sam Talley, Lisa Fisher, Hannah Mantri, Dave Hirst & Nick Wharf.
Thank you to the following companies for supplying paint, time and furniture: Homebase for
all paint and equipment plus a day paying Stuart Harris to volunteer, Avon Tool Hire for free
scaffold, ST building and Justin Hunter estate agents.
As well as all the hard work taking place in school over the holiday it is clear that the children
in Year 6 have been working equally hard! It was lovely seeing the children bring in the air
raid shelters they had built as a part of their Newbridge 50 homework. Some of the creations
must have taken hours!
On Wednesday afternoon our netball team played St Mary’s. Mrs Bartlett was full of praise
for the team and she said the girls played brilliantly. The team won 13 – 4. Well done girls!
They are now in the next round of the cup.
REMINDER
Mr Cumpson’s Football
Club, on Monday
afternoon, is cancelled
next week owing to a
Football Tournament.
I hope you all enjoyed the NPSA Firework Display last night – there were lots of “ooh!” and
“ahhh!” from the crowd and everyone seemed to have a really enjoyable evening. Thank you
to the NPSA for putting on such a great community event, which will also help the children at
Newbridge.
Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday.
Best wishes
Kris Hancock

NETBALL REPORT
On Wednesday 2nd November the Year 6 girls
travelled to St Mary’s in Weston to play their first
netball match in the B&NES League.
All 7 girls were brilliant. While they started slowly
and found it tricky to catch a ball with their cold
fingers, they really developed their play. We saw
some wonderful shooting and interceptions,
leaving the score line at 13–4 to Newbridge. What
stars! We are now through to the next round.
Well done everyone and thank you to all who
came to support.
Mrs Bartlett
