Scary Writing Contest Write a scary poem or short story that creeps out our staff to win a prize and have your work displayed in the library. There will be 6 winners total—a poem winner and a short story winner for 3 age divisions: 8 and under, 9-12, 13 and up. All entries are due by midnight October 20. Winners will be revealed on Oct 27. Winners will receive a call or email, so please provide current phone number and email. Winning submissions will be collected, printed and handed out in the Children's Room from Oct 27-31. Please follow the guidelines below: 1. Each person can submit a maximum of 3 short stories or poems that do not go over 500 words each. 2. No fan-fiction will be accepted, as the library does not have the rights to referenced material. 3. Please include your first and last name, age, email, and phone number at the top of your first page. 4. All entries must be submitted electronically in .doc or .docx format (Microsoft Word) to the following email: [email protected] 5. The library staff reserves the right to edit entries as needed. 6. Any entry may be made available to public library patrons, so don't submit something you don't want to be read by others. You may write your own first line/sentence or use any of the following prompts to begin your poems or short stories: “It was a dark and stormy night” “Once upon a midnight dreary” “You scared me” “What are you afraid of?” “The thing moved like lightning” "I was so scared I was shaking" You may also use the following pictures for inspiration:
