Correction to last week’s information. The Land Governance Board will meet
Monday, June 28 at 5 pm in Town Hall. Hold July 24 for a town picnic at the
Russell/Colbath Barn. When further information is available, it will be printed here.
The Waldorf School is holding its grade 8 graduation at the Salyards on Tuesday
evening. Congratulations to all its graduates.
World Fellowship has opened for the season. On June 25 and 26 Andy Davis will be
telling his favorite folktales. If you have never heard Andy tell his stories, this is your
opportunity.
News from Kathy Summers of the Pasaconaway Civic Association. During
Independence Weekend, July 3 and July 4, the PCA along with the Forest Service will
present a Civil War Re-enactment and Encampment at the Russell-Colbath Historic
Site on the Kancamaugus Highway. The portrayal of the 1860 Volunteers will be
made by the Fifth Massachusetts Battery, Army of the Potomac. There will be live on
site demonstrations of daily drills, artillery demonstrations every hour and much much
more. This event is free and open to the public. Make sure you put this on your
calendar as a must see event.
Library news: Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm is Open Mic Night featuring Red
Gallagher, singer, songwriter and guitarist. Hour two is open for poets, writers,
musicians and storytellers. All are welcome. Tuesday at 6:30 pm is the second
session of “Managing Stress and Finding Balance”.
Gibson Center: Don’t forget to sign up for the ever popular AARP Driver Safety
Program. Call 356-3231. On Wednesday, one of the women from ServiceLink will be
available to help with low income property tax forms from 9-noon. On Friday,
celebrate Father’s Day with lunch. Chef Rick is preparing a really special meal and
there will be lots of singing too. After lunch there will be an Ottawa Review. People
will share their photos and souvenirs.
A few more tips on aging well. Keep in touch with old friends, take dancing lessons
with a friend, exercise with a friend, enroll in a class (try OLLI), learn to speak a
foreign language or learn to play an instrument.
Attention food managers, chefs, and other foodservice workers: UNH Cooperative
Extension is offering ServSafe at the Memorial Hospital on July 6 from 8 am to 5 pm.
The cost is $135 which includes the book and exam. Pre-registration closes on June
22. Call Ann Hamilton at 447-3834 for registration form.
Condolences to Carroll R. Johnson’s daughters, Tina Drew and Charlene Merrill, on
the death of their father.
News from Frank Wolfe in Georgia. His wife Muriel has been hospitalized to correct
a vertebra problem. Though she is out of the hospital, she is still not well enough to
travel. Here’s wishes for a speedy recovery.
Congratulations to Charles Robbins family of Albany and Sylvia Wiggin of Conway
on the birth of Frank Charlie Robbins, born to Sarah and Charlie Robbins also of
Albany. He joins the family sisters, Jessica and Ashley and brothers, Charlie Jr. and
Dylan as well as Chase and Page. Another blessing to the Robbins family is Khloe
May born to Ashley Robbins and Mark Scribner. Khloe May joins sister Olivia Page.
Bernadine Dubois’ son, Robert Broussiau and grandson, Adam, visited last week on
the way back to Vermont. Adam is an Army Ranger and home on furlough before
shipping off to Afghanistan.
Dan and Nancy Rotman were at their cabin recently. Dana has written a book, “On
My Watch” that he presented at the library. The book recounts a life of adventure he
and his wife have had for more than fifty years.
Some day the summer will return and stay for its allotted time. Here’s hoping it is this
