RULES & REGULATIONS
1. ELIGIBILITY: Entry to this tournament is limited to invited NCAA sanctioned
women’s bowling teams.
2. TOURNAMENT FORMAT: Five-player teams will participate in a three-day
competition that includes a 12 match qualifying round which determines
playoff seeding and three playoff rounds which determine the final
standings.
2.1 Qualifying Round: Twelve NCAA matches are scheduled across two days
of competition. During the first day, teams will compete in six Baker total
pinfal matches, each match consists of five Baker games. Teams will
alternate lanes after each Baker game with the left lane starting each game.
However, lane choice is given to the team with the highest total pinfal after
four games for the fifth Baker game of the total pinfal match.
2.1.1 During the second day, teams will compete in six traditional team
games.
2.1.2 During the third day, teams will compete in three rounds of match play,
best four of seven baker matches. Playoff bracket attached.
2.2. Playoff rounds: Using the overall total pin fall standings after the
qualifying round is completed, teams will be seeded.
2.2.1 Choice of lane: The higher seed has choice of starting lane for the first
game of the match. From thereon, teams will alternate lanes after the
completion of each baker game with one exception: If the match goes to a
single deciding baker game, the higher seed has choice of lane.
2.3 Pools: The tournament field will be divided into pools based on the
tournament field size and the inability to play every team in attendance
while taking into consideration the number of schools attending not to
exceed daily or event match limits, the ability to play all schools in
attendance, and the ability to play schools from outside each team’s
respective region of play.
2.3.1 To ensure competitive equity, once the tournament field is finalized a
pre-seeding system will be used within each pool to determine the match
assignments and lane rotation.
2.3.2 The official tournament schedule determines starting lane for
traditional team matches and Baker total pinfall matches.
3. TIES: The following tie-breaking system will be in affect:
3.1 Teams tied for seed will use the following criteria, which are listed in
order of significance: a) head-to-head match record; b) highest traditional
team game; c) highest quad-Baker game series; d) highest Baker game; e)
coin toss.
3.1. NCAA matches: A modified Baker game will be used for all matches.
3.1.2 Choice of lane: During the qualifying rounds the lane assignments of
the 10th frame will be repeated for the modified Baker game being used.
3.1.2.1 Best four-of-seven- Baker game matches: The higher seed has choice
of lane.
3.1.3 If a match is still unresolved following a modified Baker game
tie-breaker, the system will be repeated, alternating lanes, until a winning
team is determined.
3.1.4 Modified Baker game pin fall will not be included in the overall
tournament pin fall standings.
4. TEAM ROSTERS: There is a limit of ten players per team. Official rosters
must be submitted prior to start of competition. Once competition begins,
no adjustments will be permitted. The field will be limited to 20 teams.
5. COMPETITION PRACTICE: Prior to the initial match of each day twenty five
minutes of practice is scheduled.
5.1 A twelve minute open practice session. Players and teams are not
allowed to use the pair of lanes of their first match during this session.
5.2 A three-minute travel intermission. Teams transition to their starting
pair.
5.3 A ten-minute practice session on the starting lanes of the first match.
5.3.1. Teams will practice five minutes on each lane, ending on their
starting lane.
5.3.2 During playoff rounds, the higher seed chooses the starting practice
lane and the teams will switch lanes after five minutes.
6. COMPETITION IN ROUNDS: For this event, NCAA matches will be
scheduled in rounds. Once all matches from a previous round are
completed, teams will be given a reasonable amount of time to move to
their next scheduled match.
6.1 Sunday playoff rounds only: Ten minutes of warm-up, five minutes on
each lane, higher seed determines starting practice lane. (Excluding first
match which will be 25 minutes of warm-up, outlined in section 5.)
6.2 Scheduled starting times of each round will be kept. Tardy teams will
lose their allotted practice time.
6.3 Starting time adjustments: Due to tie-breakers or breakdowns, the head
official could rule to adjust the schedule starting time of a round and/or
extend the pre-match practice period.7. TEAM AWARDS: The first place,
second place, thirdplace and fourth place teams will be awarded with team
trophies. First and second place teams will also receive individual medals.
All players and coaches will receive participation gifts, as well.
8. ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Five individuals will earn a position on the
all-tournament team. *Selection process forthcoming prior to the Coaches
Meeting at start of tournament.
9. RULES AND REGULATIONS NOT MENTIONED: All rules not covered,
including substitution of players, player warm-up during competition, and
lane maintenance patterns, will revert to the general rules of bowling as
defined by the NCAA playing rules and regulations manual.
