Leamon Abrams welcomed Working Group members to the tour.
Presentation (George Engel, SEP Plant Superintendent, SFPUC)
George Engel provided a presentation on the history and current state of San Francisco’s sewer system
and the operations of the Southeast Treatment Plant (SEP A map was distributed for use during the tour
to provide Working Group Members with an orientation to the plant and the projects in Phase I of the
SSIP.
SEP Tour (George Engel, Carolyn Chiu, Senior Project Managaer; Jignesh Deesai, Senior Project
Manager, Headworks)
George Engel and SFPUC senior project managers Carolyn Chiu (biosolids digesters facilities
project) and Jignesh Deesai (headworks and other SEP improvements) led Working Group
members on a tour of the Southeast Treatment Plant. The group observed the various
treatment processes, beginning with where the wastewater enters the SEP at the Headworks
facilities, to the end when it is transformed into biosolids. Working Group members observed
the plant’s aging infrastructure, commenting on the critical need for upgrades and
improvements.
