The Salford MBA develops the skills to progress into
the highest and most dynamic levels of business and

– and will get you ahead in business.
Whether you’re re-focusing your career or aiming high

Our internationally recognised, AMBA-accredited MBA
programme takes three distinct pathways: The Salford
MBA, MBA: Digital Business, and MBA: Sports Business.
Each has been created in partnership with our leading
research centres to share the latest in academic theory
and professional practice.
Last year The Times named us UK Business School of
the Year*. This recognised our sector-leading work
connecting business to education and education to
business: creating innovative industry experiences for
students, delivering award-winning cutting-edge content,
enhancing graduate success and driving wider economic
growth. Our innovation in an industry-facing curriculum,
SME engagement, social enterprise and world-leading
research in digital business and sports innovation –
of huge value to students, alumni, business and
community – was all noted.
The programme is one of the most flexible learning
structures in the world. Teaching, learning and
assessment strategies are designed to help all students
make the most of their potential with full and part-time
delivery, and five starting points. Learning is interactive,
and modules facilitate the application of theory to
practice. Discover our model on page 18.
You’ll also capitalise on our expertise, research and
connections. Leading UK centres for broadcast
innovation and excellence in sport are open to you with
MediaCityUK, BBC Sport, and the world class football
teams of Manchester United and Manchester City on
our doorstep. And, as you gain new skills, you’ll have the
opportunity to prove them through a Business Innovation
Live Project. You’ll take on – and overcome – real-world
problems on behalf of the chosen company, a true test
of your diverse new business management skill set.
To be recognised as THE Business School of the Year is
really testament to the hard work and talent of our team.
Now we look to build on these foundations, welcoming
the best and the brightest to become experts and leaders
who’ll transform business tomorrow. That’s people like you.

Director of the Centre for Sports Business
Yvonne draws on a decade of directorial
experience to run our MBA programmes.
She also teaches Research Methods modules

for more than twenty years. A renowned
independent researcher, she finds the
process exciting and vibrant – for valuable
information as well as unexpected findings.
Reader and Director for our Centre of
Digital Business, Marie’s main research
focuses on the role of digital technologies
in the business setting, specialising in the
convergence of the ‘real’ and digital worlds
and the social influences of technology.
Her teaching focuses on Digital Innovation,
Information Security, and Information

a VCs Distinguished Teaching award for
her innovative approach.

decision-making and widening participation
issues, gaining extensive knowledge in areas
including: how and why potential students
decide to attend university; barriers to Higher
Education at stages within the decisionmaking process; and disadvantaged pupils
and their motivation and perception, and
the influences at play. More recently she has
focused on international student performance
and the challenges this group faces – such as
‘culture shock’ in the HE environment – and
the internationalisation strategies of the UK
Higher Education market place.

Her current research agenda centres upon
digital business and the significances of
digital innovative technologies, innovation

looks at young people and digital media,
exploring their behaviour in virtual spaces,
and their roles as ‘prosumers’ in social
networking sites. Marie also researches
identity, privacy and surveillance
technologies in these areas. In the past,
live research projects have explored the
commercial and societal implications of

Samuel’s Story
The MBA kicked my
start-up into gear.
Meet Samuel Otigba.
Samuel will complete his MBA Digital Business in 2016, using the qualification as a springboard
to launch an exciting web and mobile app, Gruvve Inc. The combination of specialist expertise,
personal support and broader business skills makes him confident about future success.
Consider first what you want to get out of the
experience. For me, it was the opportunity to
create my dream company and watch it grow.
Through the aid of our wonderful tutors and
business school’s administration team my
dream is being actualized.
Samuel Otigba
MBA, 2016.
MBA course guide
‘Most universities pride themselves on a robust course
outline, triple accreditation, strong alumni base or Ivy
League credentials filled with foreign and local awards.
These are all great things, don’t get me wrong, and
Salford certainly competes.
I think the greatest advantage I’ve acquired so far is
the ability to learn, and put all that learning immediately
to practice. From managing organisational resources to
gaining the ability to be an effective leader, the School
has given me an edge in a very competitive market.
But all too often more important things are
neglected in this large portfolio of achievements:
detailed attention to one’s needs, camaraderie,
incentive to study, an ecosystem of excellence based
on one’s unique potentials and a true support system.
SBS has all of this and more. And I think it is these
potentials displayed by Salford Business School that
sets it apart from its competitors.
Another real positive is the relationships you develop
– both between students and tutors, and between
students and students. In my opinion Salford Business
School has created a dynamic foundation where
diversity is welcomed at an unprecedented level.
When you come here blending in is not an issue
– I felt right at home straight away.
If you’re thinking about an MBA, my advice would
be to consider first what you want to get out of the
experience. For me, it was the opportunity to create
my dream company and watch it grow. Through the
aid of our wonderful tutors and business school’s
administration team my dream is being actualized.’
From managing organisational resources to gaining
the ability to be an effective leader, the School has
given me an edge in a very competitive market.

Student Life
The original
modern city.
Join a real community in the
heart of a great northern metropolis.
When you choose Salford, you choose an MBA programme that will catalyse
your career. That said, you also choose a location packed with life too.
Campus and connections.
Love life, love Manchester.
Call Salford home.
Salford itself is a city set in the metropolitan
borough of Greater Manchester. The University
was founded in 1896, and is home to
20,000 students and 3,400 postgraduates.
Our MediaCityUK campus is just 2k – 1.5
miles, or a 10 minute bus ride – from
Manchester city centre. That means you can
study at a university with a real community
atmosphere and identity, with one of the
UK’s most thriving cities on your doorstep.
Manchester’s thriving music scene is worldfamous, from edgy gigs in the Northern
Quarter to big nights at the Bridgewater
Hall. It’s home to some of the UK’s best
museums, galleries and theatres – and
the Lowry is right here in Salford. Night life
and shopping is the best in the North too.
So whether you’re after quirky individualism
and niche nights, a buzzing bar scene,
or Harvey Nichols and the Trafford Centre,
there’s something for everyone. Add cuisine
from every corner of the world, and you’ll
make the most of every minute you’re
not studying.
Many MBA students opt for University –
or University Partner – accommodation.
Your library.
The University Library will prove an invaluable
asset to all students. From free laptop loans
to silent study areas to e-Resources, the
support goes beyond bricks and mortar.
And, of course, the 24hr Clifford Whitworth
library is comprehensively stocked with
books, periodicals and journals ready to
support your research.
Sports and leisure.
Just £184 a year buys you unlimited
access to all our fantastic sports facilities.
From swimming and spa to indoor climbing,
fitness suites and racquets sports, it’s a
premium gym facility with a small price tag.
